Remember that strange WHCD dinner recently? The one where a gunman was going to shoot all of Trump’s cabinet members? Yea, that. He didn’t get very far before he was stopped and arrested. There were all sorts of theories running around, and none of them were correct. Let me show you why. With appreciation for Raw Story:
With conspiracy theories and rumors swirling around the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, Daily Beast executive editor Hugh Dougherty — who was there when everything went down — expressed sympathy for those speculating that the horror was “staged” — because his first reaction was “it’s a stunt.”
But, he wrote, he’s now certain the attack by alleged gunman Cole Thomas Allen wasn’t staged. Indeed, the truth is even worse.
He should know, since he was *there*. He was an eyewitness. Now, everyone’s account will be different because everyone is different. I know this. It doesn’t mean anyone is more valid than any other. It’s just that different people react differently. Plus, he’s part of The Daily Beast, so he’s knowledgeable about the news and how everyone is different.
“In its immediate aftermath, I wrote about the jaw-dropping security blunder I had literally walked into: Allen had slept in the next room to me the night before.
He had allegedly brought his shotgun, handgun, and knives into the hotel unchecked. He wrote his manifesto on the other side of the wall from me in his room, 10237,” he wrote.
Those believing this incident was staged, he wrote, are right to question how all that was possible, when the president of the United States is one of the most securely guarded people in the world.
“It will be impossible to prove to some people that what happened was true, and not staged,” he wrote. “And yet, the more I thought about what I’d seen and heard, the more this ‘staged’ narrative ceased to make sense.
No stunt would be so sloppy, amateurish, and chaotic.
No stunt would leave Trump and those around him looking weak, old, and — some of them — terrified.
No stunt orchestrated by Trump insiders would end in backbiting and recrimination inside his inner circle.”
Yup. It seems the whole night was about security blunders, and not just by the Secret Service. The building wasn’t locked down, so to speak. Now, no one was injured, for which we can be grateful, no matter how much we detest Trump and his ‘cabinet’. We cannot wish for them to die. That’s so wrong. But sloppy, amateurish, chaotic, no, not staged. If it had been planned out, it would have happened much differently. It would have had to. If you just take a few moments to think about it, it will be obvious. Whether or not it is to others is a matter of guesswork.
The grim reality, Dougherty continued, is that “this country is living in a toxic present of guns, gunmen, political division and violence, set in a chaotic and often failing governing class, topped off with years of good reason to be cynical about everything the current president says.
Nobody needs to ‘stage’ this. It is not — to use my own words — a stunt.
It was simply one moment when that toxic combination could be seen in all its ugly colors.”
“That’s not a conspiracy,” he concluded. “It’s a condemnation.”
WHAM. There it is, all laid out for us. It’s a condemnation. Ouch. The truth hurts. He is correct. An often-failing governing class. Years of good reason to be cynical.” That is exactly what we are seeing and living in today. We’re cynical because we have reason to be. Look at Trump’s first term and now into his second. With everything he has done thus far, we have a right to be pessimistic. He’s only thinking about himself and doesn’t care about the country. He’s not even faking it anymore. That’s where the problem is, and will continue to be, until he’s out of office. And what shape our country will be in remains to be seen. Let’s hope it’s not destroyed.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

I’m still not convinced–not even by an “eye witness.” I mean, has this guy forgotten how “sloppy” the whole Butler PA incident was? The apparent lack of full security preparation of the site so that the “gunman” could set up a ladder and climb to the top of a roof within a literal gunshot away from the stage? The way the gunman could get ON that roof in the first place with his weapon? The fact that the gunman wound up dead at the site, rather than captured? The way the Secret Service surrounding Drumpf couldn’t keep his fat ass down and protected so he could make that grand gesture of “defiance?” Would anyone care to discuss how that whole matter reeked of anything other than sloppiness? Drumpf acts like a whole chunk of his ear was sacrificed to an assassin’s bullet and, yet, less than two weeks later, having undergone NO publicly discussed surgery to repair that ear, he’s out there like his ear regrew? That’s NOT something that happens with *people*–certain reptiles and amphibians, yeah, but no human has ever managed to regrow a lost body part.
And, then, of course, the matter of the attempt at the golf course?
Considering the fact that Drumpf’s FIRST actual post-incident speech invoked his little ballroom (which, incidentally, would have NEVER hosted the event in the first place), and Drumpf hasn’t really done that much in the past couple of weeks to look anything other than “weak” and “old.” And a sizable chunk of these people LIVE for “performance.” And the “inner circle” bit is just plain stupid. Every single person that Drumpf puts in ANY job owes their loyalty and allegiance to one person, and one person only: Drumpf. If they need to throw someone under the bus to save their own skin, they’ll do it in a heartbeat. There’s no loyalty among Drumpf’s inner circle; they’re all out to save their own skins.
Now that cynicism has been given equal time, we return you to our regular scheduled rant…..
