Trump has made a very, VERY bad mistake to think about this. You need to be on top of everything, and even more so when a leader of another country comes to visit. The UK is already extremely pissed with us, and we don’t need to endanger our current relationships with them. So don’t go pulling some childish game with him when he’s here. The man is fighting cancer, after all. Trump doesn’t need to be a child with this. We are very close to the UK, and we need to keep it that way. They did not take kindly to Trump’s insults and begging. My compliments to Raw Story:
President Donald Trump wants to bring up a sore subject during a visit from an allied foreign leader, a leaked Pentagon memo reveals.
The Daily Beast reported on Thursday that Trump wants to question where King Charles should control the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory near Argentina, during his upcoming visit on Monday.
Oooookay. That’s childish. Why bring up the Falklands? That was a mess to be forgotten. He’d be better off discussing the war in Iran than bringing up the Falklands. And it’s pointless! What on earth made him decide to bring up that subject? Well, let’s hope this news spreads far and wide VERY quickly so the news gets to King Charles before he comes here. We should be hoping.
Trump’s plot is reportedly payback for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to aid the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Falkland Islands could be a touchy topic as King Charles’ younger brother, Prince Andrew, fought in the conflict as a helicopter pilot, the Daily Beast notes.
The memo also reveals that the U.S. could push to expel Spain from NATO for its reluctance to get involved in the war in Iran.
Oh, good grief, how petty can he be? He’s skating on *very* thin ice with our allies, and we can expect them to back all the way away soon. It’s not *their* war. It’s Trump’s war. No matter how much he blusters, bloviates, attacks, and begs, it is not their war. Of *course* they don’t want to get involved! There’s no benefit to any of NATO for this, because they want their shipments, and they don’t want to stop them with this stupid blockade! It’s making a mess of the ENTIRE WORLD by blocking those shipments! We all know our farmers aren’t going to get the fertilizer they need, and it’s almost past growing season! I am so SICK of this damn blockade! …*ahem* Sorry, got carried away there.
The leaked Pentagon memo and Trump’s designs have already reached across the Atlantic, and the U.K. Liberal Democratic Party wants King Charles to cancel the visit, which was meant to mend strained relations between long-standing allies.
“Any move by the president to question our sovereignty in the Falklands should be met by robust denouncement,” Sir Ed Davey, the party’s leader, told The Daily Beast, adding that Trump is an “unreliable, damaging President” who “cannot keep insulting our country.”
I see that the plan has made it to the UK. Whew! And now, the machinations have begun. Trump is losing it to discuss the Falklands with King Charles. It will not do one damn bit of good. Let’s hope he doesn’t go off on one of his childish rants. At least we can be pretty sure King Charles can listen and keep a straight face. But to treat the ruler of another country like this is disgusting. It will piss off us *and* the people in the UK who detest Trump as badly as we do. I’d like to see an anti-Trump protest while King Charles is here. It would show him just how much we detest our ‘president’. That’s something I think he’d like to know. And I wish he had cancelled his visit, politely showing Trump that by the proverbial upthrust finger. It should be quite something to hear what comes out of this.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Of course, with The Falklands War, the US military never thought that the British could win.
Somewhat ironic considering US military ‘successes’ since then.
Even when conducted against despotic militaristic regimes.
Well, whether the US military thought that, it didn’t fundamentally change Reagan’s decision to support the UK (and his “good friend,” Margaret Thatcher). And that Falklands victory allowed Thatcher and her Conservatives to win a veritable landslide in the 1983 elections. And that victory was largely critical in Thatcher’s decision to NOT protest (at least, not vehemently) the US invasion of Grenada (as I noted in an earlier article).
Somewhat ironically, the US had been largely supportive of “despotic militaristic regimes,” especially in South America (Reagan’s UN Ambassador, Jeane Kirkpatrick, was especially supportive of policies that pushed closer ties to such regimes which led the British to be very suspicious of her in the days leading up to the Falklands War; she’d agreed to an invitation to a banquet held at the residence of Argentina’s ambassador to the UN–along with other officials from the US Departments of State and Defense).
Trump would have to go a very long way to excel his despicable conduct with President Zelensky, but anything’s possible with this ignorant buffoon. Charles III is a seasoned diplomat and will probably ignore Trump’s worst behavior; a royal cold shoulder is a pretty effective weapon. This visit is wildly unpopular in Britain, where no one can figure out why it’s happening, so any social or diplomatic insults by Trump will simply increase the disdain felt by our old ally for our current regime and, sadly, for our nation which elected such a liability.
It’s unfortunate that Charles agreed to this trip. Rump has been nothing but an ignorant buffoon when it comes to dealing with the royal family (remembering his stepping in front of Queen Elizabeth on his visit to the UK). He has NO idea how to behave. I wish they’d keep him locked up.
