This is ridiculous. A person in MAGA has friends in high places and managed to weasel out of being brought up on charges. What kind of crap is this! Just another Trump acolyte has saved someone from being arrested for what they did. But the warrant was blocked, and he went free. Raw Story:
Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) avoided an arrest for an alleged assault after one of President Donald Trump’s staunch allies in the Department of Justice intervened, according to a new report. The Washington Post reported on Saturday that Washington, D.C. police sought to arrest Mills after a woman accused him of assaulting her last year.
However, body camera footage and documents obtained by the outlet show that officers did not arrest Mills, who has been a close ally of Trump’s in Congress, after D.C. prosecutor Ed Martin refused to sign the warrant.
This is bullsh!t. He should have to answer for what he did, and he won’t. I’m concerned for the woman who went to the police. There’s no telling what will happen to her with the interference in his arrest. Yes, I know, innocent until proven guilty, but she has a right to have her case heard. It’s really damn hard to go to the police with something like that. You don’t know if anyone will believe you.
In turn, the senior officer on-scene classified the incident as a “family disturbance,” which the officer who sought to arrest Mills “disagreed with,” the report added. “The alleged assault is also the focal point of a House Ethics Committee investigation against the lawmaker, according to the report.
And since Republicans control Congress, the investigation will go nowhere, and there will never be any results. This is serious, but will it be taken seriously? Mills is a big MAGA Trump ally. Trump never had to answer for his assaults. Yes, E. Jean Carroll won her cases, but they’re tied up in appeals, so it used to count when she won, except now we don’t know what will happen. How in the hell assault could get knocked down to a family disturbance, I have no clue.
“Unfortunately, I have bosses that are making this into a family disturbance — a domestic disturbance — instead of an actual domestic assault,” Richard Mazloom, the officer who wanted to arrest Mills, told the alleged victim, as reported by the Post. Mills has denied the allegations against him, calling them “patently false.”
Of course he does. He’s done nothing wrong, and the woman doesn’t know what she’s talking about. It always works out that way. What happens the next time he does this? Just another “DD”, of course. People like this make me angry, male or female. It’s more important to believe the guy who has (“not”) committed the crime. Our legal system is broken, and isn’t helped by the shenanigans of the DoJ. So Mills walks free to do this again as long as Ed Martin is in charge of his area, because no warrants will be signed for him. What a farce.
