Heh, here’s another bit of nonsense coming out of Trump’s mouth. He seems to think we are in charge of the Iran-US negotiations, that we have everything and they have nothing. Well, we don’t. It’s that straightforward. He never gives up blustering and bragging in a vain attempt to make himself look self-righteous and as if he’s always winning. We know better. And MAGA is beginning to know better. He can flail all he wants. That might make it worse. Thanks to AlterNet:

Ahead of diplomatic talks starting Saturday, President Donald Trump once again threatened Iran with violence as critics charge his tenuous cease-fire has fallen apart. “As Vice President JD Vance was heading to Pakistan on Friday for peace talks with Iran, a senior Iranian official laid out new conditions for the negotiations, adding even more uncertainty about the durability of the cease-fire and whether the two sides could reach a long-term deal,” The New York Times reports, noting that President Trump “warned Tehran not to overplay its hand.”

He’s trying to bull his way into an agreement that most likely isn’t coming. He’s trying to save face. No one believes him, especially not Iran, although with his inflammatory rhetoric, the cease-fire might not *actually* happen at all. Israel refuses to stop bombing Lebanon. That’s making a potential agreement even tougher. Let’s hope it’s not completely out of reach.

“The Iranians don’t seem to realize they have no cards, other than a short-term extortion of the World by using International Waterways,” the President wrote on Truth Social. “The only reason they are alive today is to negotiate!” he declared. His remarks seemed to echo his highly criticized comments earlier this week: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.” On April 1, Trump wrote, “We are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”

This goes right back to a piece I wrote earlier today. This man is messed up. He insists nukes weren’t ever in the equation, but the more he says, the more it sounds like he’s considered it. That would be a disaster of epic proportions. We can’t really imagine what would happen if he dropped a nuke on them, especially since it would affect the entire Middle East and our allies, who are already angry with us because of Iran’s attacks. Surprisingly, we haven’t had anyone jump off the Trump ally boat. Not yet.

Some ridiculed the president. “Completely controlling the Strait of Hormuz and charging ships a $2 million toll to pass through seems to be a couple of pretty good cards,” noted attorney Adam Cohen. //// Reason’s Matthew Petti added, “You might say that Iran’s only cards are…a strait flush.”

Yes, the groans may ensue on the second comment. Strait Flush. Hahaha! It seems that Iran has a lot more cards than we do. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure we have more than one. All the attacks we did most certainly did not put Iran down and out. There was no victory. There was *no point* in starting the war in the first place. We are at a disadvantage. Let’s just hope that Trump and Hegseth don’t throw away thousands of our troops on a ground war that would be a catastrophe.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. this is back to the screenplay in trump’s head. they got no cards sounds tough to trump (kind of like bespectacled allen zimmerman choosing the name woody because it sounded tough. well, it sounded tough to him). whoever controls the strait holds all the cards. true enough, trump could nuke iran or conventionally bomb them back to the stone age but that would result in the us being sanctioned to the point where it would take years for our economy to recover. putin must be banging his head against a wall for letting trump get this far out of hand.

    • Screenplay, ooo that’s a good statement. It’s more appropriate than anything I’ve come up with (lol). It does sound tough … to anyone who’s never heard anything from Trump. Then it isn’t.

Iran is sitting in the catbird seat. They’re not worried about us in the slightest. Let’s hope that the ham-handed “representatives” Trump sent over can figure out how to be delicate in their negotiations without blurting out something (see: JD Vance and President Zelenskyy). There are other people who would have been a much better choice. I’m not at all sure that any of those fools have enough sense to keep it from being a one-sided ceasefire to Iran’s benefit.

I’m most seriously worried about the attacks from us continuing. It’s exactly because of the word you used – sanction. We have enough troubles. People will die for lack of the things we need. Our country will be wrecked. All because of Trump.
