Hegseth can’t keep a lid on everything. Eventually, it’s going to blow right off and make a mess. This time, he’s being slapped down for the lies by the people who know better – our Armed Forces members. They were there while he was not. How Hegseth and company missed the obvious is to doubt (and debate) another day. All of our bases in the Middle East are damaged or destroyed. Good one, Hegseth. Good one. With respect to Raw Story:

U.S. military service members claimed the Pentagon was not telling the truth about Iran’s deadliest attack on America’s troops during President Donald Trump’s most recent war. CBS News reported that survivors of the attack that killed six and wounded 20 were “left dangerously exposed” when they were attacked in Kuwait. According to the surviving members, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was wrong when he said they were attacked by a drone “squirter,” which squirted through defense systems.

That’s both a strange and a funny name for something. Squirter. Well, it provides the expected response. But if Hegseth lied about it, that’s another matter. The troops *know* what happened. Hegseth just *thinks* he knows. But then he hardly ever talks to *anyone* in the military (he rants and raves and lectures – that’s not talking), so he doesn’t have the actual data. Wouldn’t it have been a wise idea to talk to the servicemembers first?

“Painting a picture that ‘one squeaked through’ is a falsehood,” one injured soldier told the network. “I want people to know the unit … was unprepared to provide any defense for itself. It was not a fortified position.” Before the March 1 attack, soldiers said they received an all-clear alert declaring that there were no incoming attacks. Only 30 minutes later, “everything shook,” one service member recalled. “And it’s something like what you see in the movies. Your ears are ringing. Everything’s fuzzy. Your vision is blurry. You’re dizzy. There’s dust and smoke everywhere,” the soldier said.

This should not have happened. Iran certainly has the intelligence available to it where our bases are (were). Of *course* they’re going to attack them. Seriously, now, Iran couldn’t ignore them. And it had the bonus of making the hosting countries mad when they were attacked. That was partly a gamble, seeing as the host countries could have joined the war on “our side”, but it paid off. NO ONE in the Middle East wants to be in this senseless war against Iran. Okay, except Israel, but that’s not pertinent right now.

According to CBS, the soldiers were stationed at an older-style base that offered “no protection from aerial attacks.” A soldier described being in a “deeply unsafe area that was a known target.” “From a bunker standpoint, that’s about as weak as one gets,” he added. In a response on X, the Pentagon did not deny the soldiers’ version of events. Assistant Secretary of Defense Sean Parnell insisted that “every possible measure has been taken to safeguard our troops — at every level” and that “[t]he secure facility was fortified with 6-foot walls.”

A six-foot wall does no darn good against an aerial attack. Every available measure should *include* aerial attacks in this day and age. No one thought about that except the servicemembers who were stationed there. They knew. Wow, did they know. This should have been changed a long time ago, especially with what’s available in technology now. It’s a disgrace. We lost people, and we have injured people because the higher-ups assumed they wouldn’t be attacked. It’s senseless. And really embarrassing. No wonder Hegseth is trying (and failing) to spin it.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
