It’s official. Hegseth has gone off the deep end. This is in addition to what he’s been doing in the war. We don’t know where on earth he came up with this one. And my heart does NOT break for him not getting to bomb some more. Folks, what is WRONG with this guy? Thanks to Raw Story:

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth went for a peculiar comparison at Monday’s press conference on the rescue of downed pilots in Iran, comparing the operation to bring them home to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Shot down on Good Friday, hidden in a cave, a crevice all of Saturday, and rescued on Sunday,” said Hegseth. “Flown out of Iran as the sun was rising on Easter Sunday, a pilot reborn, all home and accounted for, a nation rejoicing.” He then proclaimed that, “God is good.”

That is way, way, WAY out there. His version of religion is strange (and demeaning to females) as it is. But now he’s making comparisons to Easter? Where did this come from? It’s hard to comment on this because it’s so bizarre. Even “Mr. Religious” Trump didn’t go that far. And no wonder servicemembers feel they aren’t free to practice their religion, no matter what it might be.

The clear comparison to the Easter story of Christ’s resurrection drew swift criticism from commenters on social media. “Is Hegseth comparing the downed pilot’s crash and rescue to Jesus’s death and resurrection? Am I having a stroke?” wrote USA TODAY columnist Rex Huppke. //// “Oh noooo,” wrote Allison Gill of “Mueller, She Wrote.” “Hegseth is comparing the airman to Jesus because he was shot down on Good Friday, hid in a cave on Saturday, and was pulled into the sky on Easter Sunday. Uggghhhhhhh.” //// “OMG! Pete Hegseth is unbelievable!” wrote radio host Rick McCain.” He’s going to try to compare the Resurrection of Jesus Christ to a rescued airman. How hypocritical. The man knows no shame!”

Yep, we are all thinking things like that. It’s a poor comparison. The two events are *completely* unrelated – except to Hegseth, apparently. This is SO wrong. It’s an insult to a whole bunch of people. And it’s a crazy thing to say in public on Easter weekend. It feels like he’s trying to say that everyone should follow *him*, not what works for each individual. Please note that I intend *no* disrespect to the pilot. Hegseth, oh, hail yes. He’s becoming a better gag than even Elon.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), a Marine combat veteran, had a different criticism of the whole affair. “Trump’s Defense Secretary, CIA Director, and top general are at the podium praising Trump like he flew the mission himself,” wrote Moulton. “He simply rubber-stamped the rescue that should have never needed to happen in the first place. The bravery and admiration belong to the troops and pilots who volunteered, flew into the line of fire, and brought each other home. Trump got them into this mess. That’s his legacy here.” This comes just a few days after Trump’s spiritual adviser compared him publicly to Jesus, triggering a similar wave of backlash.

Well, my goodness gracious and golly gee, how could we possibly not think Trump is Jesus? Ha. We can think. We have eyes to see and ears to use to listen. And we have fingers to comment. Comparing Trump to Jesus is worse than what Hegseth did. It’s almost as far out there, too. Trump’s spiritual advisor is nonsense. And Hegseth’s pastor is nonsense. We’ll save the rant about Hegseth’s religion/pastor for another day.

See you tomorrow!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I forced myself to sit through that nauseating 90-plus minutes and was appalled. I even wrote about the level of bullshit spread making it sound like Trump ordering (more like allowing) that rescue mission was something unusual, that it took a extra-bigly-awesome level of guts and leadership to do it. No, Trump did what any President before him in my lifetime would have done – said fine and stepped the hell out of the way when told by the brass we had someone down behind enemy lines and we were going in to get them. The whole sick TV show was intended to paint a picture of a brave Trump who, unlike predecessors risked sooooooooo much to ‘do the right thing’ by rescuing downed aircrew.

My fellow jarhead Congressman Seth Moulten nailed it when he called bullshit on the whole thing. Mocking how everyone (not just Trump but infuriatingly even Gen. Caine) tried to make it seem like Trumpty-Dumpty had flown the rescue mission himself. AND bluntly pointing out the truth which was that Trump simply rubber-stamped a mission that should never have been needed in the first place!

Moulten delivered a swift kick to the nuts. Now that I think about it, it was even more than that. It was more like the funniest (to me) scene from the movie 21 Jump Street when Rob Riggle’s (also a jarhead officer in real life) character got shot in shall we say a very unfortunate spot:

    • Dammit. When I hit Post the video clip came up age restricted. It’s funny as hell and if you want a good laugh hit play. It will take you to YouTube and you can type in 21 jumpstreet (I shot him in the dick) and it should come up.

    • Let’s see if third time lucky. I’ve lost two different extended replies and now I can’t remember everything I was going to say!!!

I didn’t even try to watch, I just … couldn’t. From what you told us, I would have been screaming the whole time and lost my voice! Trump “allowing” that rescue mission? Hooey. I firmly believe we would have gone after them no matter what Trump said. And we are fortunate that he did stay the hell out of the way. But first that, then this thing with Hegseth, and our government is tilting towards insanity. It’s disturbing. I’m embarrassed for Gen Caine and would like to know what the hell has happened to him.

I read an article on Mr. Moulton. I had not known he was a retired Marine and that’s pretty damn cool! Yes, he kicked them so hard their toes lifted off the ground!!!

That video was HILARIOUS!!!!!! Thank you for sharing!
