Didn’t get to watch the speech, even if I could have made myself sit through it. But my ‘favorite’ source has a couple of different articles about it. It’s horrifying. I read them and just gawked at the page for a while because his last marbles have gone. This Iran business is hurting us, and apparently has gotten to him, too. I’ll quote from 2 articles. So, thanks to Raw Story here and here:

President Donald Trump befuddled the nation on Wednesday with a strange rant about the war in Iran, in which many observers remarked that very little was said that was new. Trump gave his first national address since the war started about five weeks ago. He spoke about the progress made in the war and said the U.S. has “nearly completed” all of its objectives.

He also made several astonishing claims, such as calling on NATO allies to purchase oil from the U.S. or “take it” from the Strait of Hormuz and describing Iran as one of the world’s great powers.

More on the NATO statements shortly. It seems he was pretty incoherent and wandered around all over the place. What a great image for the US. If the world didn’t think he was a moron before, they certainly do now. It’s bloody d*mn frustrating to wake up in the morning to go find out what stupid thing he’s done next.

Political analysts and observers were left puzzled and confused by the address. They shared their reactions on social media. //// “This speech is insane. Our President is a lunatic,” Sarah Longwell, publisher of The Bulwark, posted on X. “Also, he sounds like a moron. A real low-IQ individual. Don’t be numb to how crazy this is.”.

“So Trump’s plan to end the war and reopen the strait is to … not do either of those things,” journalist Matthew Yglesias posted on X. //// “The rest of the world needs to grab the Strait of Hormuz by the p—-,” Tim Miller, host of “The Bulwark Podcast,” mocked on X. //// “Clearly, there is no plan for the Strait,” Patrick De Haan, petroleum market analyst for GasBuddy, posted on X. //// “What the f— was that?” Andrew Feinberg, White House correspondent for The Independent, posted on X.

Yes, very much what the eff. It was essentially a nothing burger. I guess I should have watched, but we had guests, so no. And I hate his voice. But that’s why I use online media, so I don’t have to watch. I expect I would be screaming after 60 seconds. To anyone who was able to watch, I commend your stubbornness and bravery. Now, about NATO:

He also told NATO allies that they have two choices to make when it comes to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that Iran has effectively shut down in retaliation for the continued bombing strikes. “The countries that do receive oil through the Strait must take care of that passage; they must cherish it,” he continued. “They must grab it and cherish it.

They can do it easily. We will be helpful, but they should take the lead in defending the oil that they so desperately depend on.” “So, to those countries who refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran – we had to do it ourselves – I have a suggestion: number one, buy oil from the United States. We have plenty. We have so much. And number two, build up some delayed courage … and take it, protect it, and use it for yourselves.”

Wow. Just … wow. It seems he’s trying to drag them into the war so they can clear out the Strait. Our minesweepers are in for maintenance. I seem to remember other countries telling Trump he cannot use theirs. Does he expect them to go in on their own? Seriously, now, what is he expecting them to do? We can bet that since they certainly want nothing to do with the war, they aren’t going to clear the Strait. Since it’s our war, that’s up to us. Good luck with that.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
