As usual, Trump is posting about a topic that he barely knows anything about. He’s already switched positions on the topic of Iran. Initially, he was going after the government if they shot any protestors. Thousands have been shot but he seems to have forgotten all about that. Here’s his latest.

Space out time, but what else is new? What’s that you say? He just advised them to keep on protesting when thousands of them are getting killed protesting? Yes, that sounds about right.
Maybe he’ll drop a bomb on another mountain.
Great again? Iran hasn’t been great since before I was born. Remember the brutal dictatorship of the Shah and the tortured and killings meted out by his SAVAK to keep him in power. Remember that he was in power because U.S. Oil companies wanted control of Iran’s oil and overthrew the former leadership to install it’s own puppet. Much as I loved Jimmy Carter his fateful decision to allow the Shah to enter the U.S. for much needed medical treatment was a mistake. Iranians had plenty reason to hate us for propping up the old regime. They were only partially mollified by our acceptance of Khomeni returning and forming a new government which is what Iranians wanted. Or rather thought they wanted. They thought they’d get a democracy, albeit one where religion played a larger role than the largely secular majority wanted. What all but the fanatics did NOT want was the Theocracy they got and have been living with ever since.
The point is that by being compassionate and allowing the Shar to get medical treatment in NYC distrust and dislike of the U.S. turned to raw hatred in Iran. That was the watershed moment. Will enough people rise up to overthrow the current theocratic regime? And if so is there someone who won’t be just as bad? We’ll have to wait and see.
One thing I’m sure of is that any promise Trump might make behind the scenes to provide support to overthrow the govt. of Iran will be seen as bullshit. Right next door they saw how Bush Sr. promised to support rebellion against Saddam then sat on his hands when Saddam used chemical weapons against his own people. If I were Iranian I wouldn’t trust the U.S. either. And the people there ARE smart and despite attempts to prevent it informed to a surprising degree about the world beyond their borders. They damn well know Trump’s “word” isn’t worth the paper it isn’t printed on.
