Results of a new poll for midterms came out recently, and it’s not good for Republicans. The White House blathers that everything is fine. Well, both sides of the aisle can see this one. It’s public. Their constituents can see it, too. It will solidify what they were already thinking. To requote and redo a song lyric, “ They got it bad and it ain’t good”. It’s good for us, though. From Raw Story:

The political outlook in 2026 for Republicans is “fine,” according to a Donald Trump adviser responding to a devastating new poll. Political observers were shocked over the weekend after a new poll revealed what one reporter called “the largest lead for either party on the congressional ballot in the NBC News poll since the 2018 midterms.” According to the poll, Democrats lead Republicans in the battle for Congress by eight points, 50%-42%.

How about “dem apples”? That doesn’t look fine at all. But a lot can happen in the year until then. Republicans might actually work across the aisle and get the government going again. (Nah.) If they did, then they could try and spin it to their advantage. That might help. We just can’t see how, when a wreck has been made of our government in less than a year, and rage is continuing to build for what isn’t being done, and still, the Big Ugly Bill. Hmmm, could the Democrats use that? “Republicans passed it, we didn’t”. Well, hopefully someone thinks of that in time for it to be of some use. Fine is wrong. It’s not just incorrect, it’s wrong.

Responding to that poll, Trump’s former political director and the current White House deputy chief of staff, James Blair, who has worked with paid-canvassing operations like Turning Point Action and America First Works, said the GOP was fine despite the public “Rorschach test.” “Public Polling = Rorschach Test. DEMs touting today’s NBC DEM+8. Better rated WaPo = D+2; Better than same day ‘17 by 11. Watch Current Avg., today = D+3 ~7 pts better than same day ‘17. ~2 off ‘21,” he said. “Key Takeaway: By historical standards, midterm outlook is fine [right now] for GOP.”

Golly gee, sir, are you sure about that? Does he not pay attention to history? Go back and look at the midterms of 2018. That time, it was Republicans with the wave. This time, it’s looking good for Democrats. How many people are going to see this and start thinking about such things? It’s possible we could keep that momentum going through the next presidential election, as long as people think and plan that far ahead. It would be smart to start strategizing about that *now*, just like thinking about midterms should *already* be going. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any indications of that, except for one Senator in this writer’s home state. Dammit. Well, short and sweet today, folks. See you soon.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
