The biggest problem with the mainstream media, and this made itself manifest back in 2016, is that it simply will not publish the truth about Donald Trump, which is that he’s an inveterate liar. It always whitewashed his words, using the words “false statements” only on rare occasion. Then came the sanewashing, which is a step above (or below, take your pick) whitewashing. Sanewashing is twisting Trump’s idiotic lies in such a manner that they make a kind of Bizarro World sense. They don’t really make sense without the sanewashing component and so the MSM provides that, I guess to keep the conversation going. And of course the right-wing media has a lexicon all its own to keep their own coffers full and the world of alternative reality booming. Or, more likely, to avoid his wrath. It is this normalization of Trump’s abnormality which has put us in the leaky, creaky boat in which we currently find ourselves.
This past week Trump chose to lash out at renowned economist Paul Krugman. He attacked Krugman on Truth Social and Krugman lashed back. No sanewashing for him.
Nobel Prize-winning economist turned political pundit Paul Krugman hit back after President Donald Trump attacked him by name on his Truth Social platform over the weekend.
“Paul Krugman of the New York Times has been predicting Doom and Gloom ever since my great election success in 2016. In other words, he has been wrong for YEARS, as ALL markets have been hitting new HIGHS, and are now higher than ever before. People stayed out of the ‘BEST MARKET IN HISTOY [sic]’ because of this Trump Deranged BUM. Sue them!” wrote Trump, apparently unaware that Krugman no longer writes for The Times.
“Ever since that latest weak jobs report, Trump has been frantically trying to convince the American public that the economy is doing great,” Krugman wrote. “He is failing, and predictably so. Experience shows that trying to talk up the economy when people don’t perceive it as good never works, even if the data are favorable. It’s even less likely to work when the data actually aren’t good, and calling people who point out economic weakness BUMs isn’t likely to help.”
Trump is trying to do the opposite with his federal takeover of Washington, D.C., Krugman noted, claiming the city is riddled with crime and lawlessness even though crime has dropped precipitously over the last few years.
And it’s incumbent on those who report these facts to cut through the noise and call it like it is, he added.
“Anyone who either lives there or looks at crime data knows that this is malicious nonsense. But we can’t take it for granted that the rest of the country will understand that he’s lying,” Krugman wrote. “And if I may say, it’s the responsibility of the news media to make that clear. Don’t say ‘Trump makes contentious claims about DC crime.’ Don’t say that there’s ‘dispute over DC crime data.’ Just say that he’s lying.”
Just say that he’s lying. It is that simple. You remember the old adage that ends, “For the want of a nail, the kingdom was lost?” For the want of the simple truth, “he’s lying” America is on the precipice of being lost.
Krugman isn’t having any of it. Let’s follow his lead and demand truth from Trump and when he doesn’t give it, demand that the mainstream media does. I know you’re shaking your head, possibly even laughing. But the fact of the matter is, that simple truths are the most powerful and this truly is where we need to begin.
Truth is our ally against Trump. Truth to Trump is like holy water to a vampire, it burns him. And the truth does out, on plenty of occasions. Trump dropped his asinine lawsuit against Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register for publishing a poll that Trump didn’t like last November, showing Kamala Harris ahead by several points.
The fact that he dropped the suit didn’t get the kind of press it deserved. That’s part of what is wrong with today’s press coverage of Trump. The false impression is given that he’s getting everything he wants, that he’s the king. It’s not true. The rest of the story needs to be told. Every time he loses, every time he face plants and makes a fool of himself, that needs to be reported. It’s not bias to do so, it is objective reporting.

President Donald Trump and U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa have refiled their lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and its former pollster, J. Ann Selzer, over the results of a 2024 Iowa Poll.
In an apparent move to keep Miller-Meeks and a former state representative as plaintiffs in the case, attorneys for the president dismissed their case in federal court on Monday while refiling their lawsuit in state court.
Your words on “… the truth about Donald Trump … is that he’s an inveterate liar…” are incontestable. And it’s no lie underneath all that shield of lying is a spineless and pathetic weakling, that’s scared of his own hollowed out shadow of a demonic soul. Being an invertebrate liar comes across as possibly the only bravado left for him to maintain a predatory and ghoulish existence.
Mainstream media have pushed the “impartiality” standard far across the boundary between staying neutral and covering up lies. Let’s hope that Krugman has set the new norm for all reporters and commentators: “Just say he’s lying!”
He,(trump), was a murderer,(covid), and a LIAR,(hundreds of thousands), from the beginning, and when he speaks lies, he speaks his native language for there IS NO TRUTH IN HIM. The gospel of John 8:42-47. That’s the description of the devil given by Christ. Said 20 centuries ago. Funny how people believe in God, and Jesus as incarnate Divinity, but are terrified to believe in ‘powers and principalities’ of darkness as described by Paul. Some say its the greatest trick of the evil One…convince people he doesn’t exist. Jesus apparently knew better. So do I. Trump is as close to the antichrist as can be imagined. More death and destruction on the way. Count on it.
We’re seeing what happens to all he much-vaunted guardrails in our government when the people who swore to uphold them don’t do what they vowed, and we’re also seeing what happens to a much-vaunted free press when the people within it fail to do their allotted task of seeking out and reporting on the truth. All institutions are only as good as the people they contain, and today’s incumbents are, overwhelmingly, spineless and corrupt.
How does anyone not know that if his lips are moving, he’s lying at this point. Just call his lies what they are live without shame. Your grandchildren will thank you for it.
