I’ll be honest. I forgot all about Devin Nunes but like the kid in Poltergeist said ‘He’s baaaaaack!’ At least unlike that movie this is in a fun way. Nunes sued Rachel Maddow for defamation. A judge has just tossed out his lawsuit. BURN!
I enjoyed the hell out of LGBTQ Nation’s article about this development. It’s actually a fairly basic set of events. Maddow reported on something Politico had put out. Nunes sued her claiming she shouldn’t have said what she did on the air. Like I said this all got started so long ago I forgot about it. Alas, for Nunes the time came to stand in front of a judge and listen to his bigly defamation suit get tossed out of court. Dismissed. Over:
Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes, who once unsuccessfully sued a social media account for mocking him from his cow’s point of view, has lost his defamation lawsuit against lesbian MSNBC News host Rachel Maddow. The judge threw the case out because he said “no reasonable jury could find” Maddow liable for defamation under its legal definition.
Most of the linked article digs into how the case came about, who said and did what and when and so on. However in the section I highlighted there are some things the authors of that article didn’t talk about but I think are worthy of discussion. So let’s unpack that stuff above. The fun part of course is that we might get another round of ‘Devin Nunes’ Cow’ stories and memes. That was fun for quite a while. Nunes, being a dumbass couldn’t get past a little mocking and turned it into a much bigger deal than it would have been. In fact, Devin Nunes’ Cow beat him out in social media! Now he’s invited a trip down ‘Cow Farm Lane’ so I hope lots of people take another stroll down it.
The thing is, he sued ‘the Cow’ (well, the person who created the account) and LOST. We know how Trump feels about losers and losing to a freaking Cow, even if it was a parody account makes me wonder just what Nunes did for Trump way back during all the “Russia, Russia Russia’ stuff that got him his gig with Trump’s attempt to create a media empire. Given how the whole enterprise never took off and is bleeding money it’s astounding Nunes still has a job with Trump.
Alas, there are guys who just can’t stop themselves from shooting their own foot. Or easing their “junk” onto a table and smashing it with a meat tenderizing mallet. Nunes clearly is one of them. I get that he wanted to get back at Maddow. But I’m stunned he went and filed an actual lawsuit. And then didn’t quietly drop it when it became apparent he had no case. But he stuck it out and it was against someone conservatives and his boss love to hate. Rachel Maddow! Don’t think for one second Trump won’t notice his boy Devin lost to RACHEL MADDOW.
Again, we know how much Trump HATES ‘losers’ and Nunes has famously lost to a freaking cow and now Rachel Maddow. I just don’t see Trump keeping him around. I also don’t feel the least bit sorry for him because Nunes is a real P.O.S. I’d say the countdown clock on his time in Trumpworld is running. Nunes isn’t some Cabinet pick that’s been on the job less than six months. Trump would be better off by firing Hegseth and others but doesn’t want to look stupid over having picked them in the first place.
Nunes on the other hand is NOT in a high profile job Trump had to exert influence to get into a high profile job. He’s just another employee and has hardly distinguished himself. In fact he’s embarrassed himself and I doubt I’m the only one asking why he was still working for Trump at all? Maybe when the inevitable comes we’ll have heard the last of Devin Nunes. No one will hire him. And he’s hardly podcast material either. Is it mean to enjoy Nunes’ humiliation, and impending firing? Maybe but as Melania’s coat famously said ‘I Don’t Really Care Do U’?
