The Inaugural ball is just as weird as you would imagine. Melania is wearing a bondage collar (I kid you not) and Trump started dancing to YMCA with a sword in his hand. And these people do these things sober, so we are told. And of course young Barron was in attendance. He looks miserable in this video. I don’t have reason to believe it has been doctored in any way. It’s got the MSNBC logo in the lower right hand corner and so this is a clip that was taken live and then posted to social media. So you tell me if this kid looks happy or not. (And no, I don’t know what the slicked, Rudolph Valentino hair is about. He looked far better with his last haircut.)

Not a happy young chap. But of course right-wing media has his future all locked up. Comments like, “If you think the liberals are freaking now, wait until Barron’s president in 2040.” With any luck I’ll be dead by then. I’ll be 87, if I’m not, and the last effing thing I want to do is live through another Trump administration. If I get through this one it will be a miracle.

I mentioned Melania’s bondage collar. Here’s the painfully awkward shuffling that these two call “dancing.”

JFC. If you were able to watch that then I’m sure you wonder as I do, if Melania was wondering if Trump would actually remember to move a foot or just stand there and piss down his leg. But it gets worse.

And now we’re back to Barron.

Barron is one of these people about whom little is known so everybody just projects what they think is going on. But then there’s this.

Maybe Garry Kasparov or one of the other chess players on Twit/X could check this out for us. And I would love to hear these languages drip from his tongue. I speak pidgin French myself, having lived in France for four months once, and I’m willing to bet he can’t speak it as well as I can. The lies are nonstop. I don’t blame Barron for the lies which are told about him. He has unfortunately been co-opted into an ugly political grifting machine and it is sad. But on the other hand, he’s 18 now and if this is a lie, he could ask that it be taken down and he hasn’t, right? Right. So he may well be part of the grifting family himself. And why not? From where he stands, the best bullshitter wins, not the most qualified or hardest working.

Anyhow, these are the lowlights of the Inauguration. Along with this inanity we had Trump pull out of the Paris Accord and release a lot of violent January 6-ers today. That is not a good thing. That basically circumvents the rule of law and lets younger generations know that accountability is merely a question of who’s in power. Not a good message to send.

And tomorrow is the immigrant raid in Chicago and thousands of people are in hiding from that. This is not the America I grew up in. I’m ashamed that Trump got reelected. I weep that we’re even having these conversations or discussing these topics.

But we can’t stop fighting. Trump won by a plurality, not a majority. That means half of America is still sane. We can and must take back both chambers of Congress in 2026. As Democrats our focus must be riveted to that and we must make it happen.

  2. Maybe it wasn’t Elon that had him upset, but rather looking at mom and her outfit – as in that collar you mentioned. Maybe when they left to meet up with Trumpty she didn’t have it on and it was TRUMP who ordered her to wear it. Just to remind her and everyone else who “Master” is. For a boy like Barron the ole Oedipus Complex would kick into overdrive, especially if “Melanie” actually does plan to spend the bulk of her time back in the WH.

  4. Rosie O’Donnel speculated back in 2016 that B was autistic in some way. His non-reaction to on-stage, crazy, public stimuli has to mean something. And yes, I agree that he is likely to be the worst *rump… just look in his vacant eyes.

  5. Unlike the other Trump.hellspawn, Barron wasn’t a legacy admission.I hope he is trying to distance himself. He refused to be a delegate at the Republican convention.
    The hair thing is hipster fashion. Not a great look.
