Despite how my day started I was determined to follow news later in the morning to see the goings on, the ceremonies taking place to transfer Jimmy Carter from the Carter Center to the airport and on to DC where he will lie in State in the U.S. Capitol. So, I turned on the news and what do I see? TRUMP’S UGLY ORANGE MUG blathering all sorts of outrageous nonsense and lies. I didn’t catch the beginning but understand what I saw (and there were some questions taken) went on over an hour. He just HAD to intrude on the day. Having a few days devoted mostly to someone other than him? His butt-hurt ego simply couldn’t take it and knowing the more crazy he sound the more the media beast will focus on HIM he cut loose. “Bigly.” And the effing media indulged him the way they always do!
I was angry and still am. Not just a former President, but a better one than he’s been given credit for being and one of the finest people to have served as one of the world’s leaders (including those extraordinary decades of post Presidency service) deserved better. I flashed back to the insane nature of the news media to a service for Michael freaking Jackson. For HOURS there was literally a static image of EMPTY chairs at the place where a memorial was to be held and the chattering class droned on and on. At least with President Carter we would have seen people, and things taking place.
But today they gave us Trump for over an hour. THAT Trump was downplayed, if not outright hidden by the news biz during the campaign. The scene of his verbal diarrhea followed by at least an hour of exposing the lies and crazy multiple times per week would have made a difference. Well, just as I’ve predicted Trumpty, Mr. Sharty-Pants intends to crap all over things as much as he can. I’m serious about what I wrote the other day. If there IS a God then by God ole God can prove it. How? When Trump shows up at the National Cathedral send down a rain of lightening bolts to turn his fat orange ass into a crisp.
Well, Carter is arriving at the Capitol and soon his casket will be carried up the East steps and taken to the Rotunda. Vice-President Harris will deliver remarks and I eagerly await hearing her, and watching the ceremony. It will be quite a picture the next couple of days. The juxtaposition of the Nation and World honoring and saying goodbye to a great human being who worked his whole life to make other’s lives better, while preparing to be FORCED to accept the return of a President to power who is unfit for that Office in any way one can name.
Well, as I watch my TV I see the carriage has arrived at the steps of the East Capitol. I’m going to turn up the sound (I heard earlier cadence will be called and audible as they carry him up the steps – an ole jarhead like me who also worked in funeral service in my life appreciates those kinds of things) and the general pageantry of it all is something we can and should take comfort in. Gotta run before the tears start to flow…

Well said and amen, brother. I’m sorry you were subjected to that abomination that should not have happened. I like you am very sick and tired of any attention being paid to DonOld.
“Amazing Grace” always makes me cry. Thx for your Post, we must stay strong & fight the “EVIL that is Trump & his LOT,” in 2025 and beyond…..
Agree totally. Someday my blood may stop boiling…but not today. Someday this country may live up to the hype, but we keep trading decent moral men for evil liars and killers. We also had a chance to live up to electing a moral leader and the first woman, but the media decided otherwise. I’m not making promises to anyone about anything, given what we’ve allowed this nazi traitor get away with while locking up people smoking cannabis. I was fortunate to have Carter as Commander in Chief. Nixon makes a back room deal to keep Vietnam going, undercutting Johnson, getting thousands of our boys killed. Reagan makes a backroom deal with the radicals in Iran for our citizens to continue to be held captive so Carter would be damaged. Bush steals an election, lies about WMDs in Iraq, getting tens of thousands of people killed, including thousands of our troops. We’ve had a front row seat for this evil pissant…and his numbers for Covid alone are over a million and counting; since he also was against testing, masking, providing PPEs, and blew enough smoke up this gullible population’s arses, that tens of millions decided to become walking petri dishes, so we could NEVER contain a virus that mutates. People are still suffering and dying from Covid. If we had a moral country, an honorable country, and one that valued sacrifice and truth…we could all rest easier with the natural trials and travails of living. That’s not our reality, and the real storm is still far far out to sea. Carter’s presidency and life will shine brighter as time goes on. Trump’s grows darker, meaner, and smaller as each day passes. And he has the NERVE to salute at the Army/Navy game, having been a draft dodger, and not be in uniform and on active duty. Gotta go…my blood is now steaming…
“If there IS a God then by God ole God can prove it. How? When Trump shows up at the National Cathedral send down a rain of lightening bolts to turn his fat orange ass into a crisp.”
Sorry, Denis, but there is no “God.” At least none that gives a flying f*ck about humanity (much less America) because such an entity has had hundreds of opportunities to prove their existence by ridding the world of Trump and didn’t do so.
Look up the word ‘mystery’…something many religions and cultures used to respect. Although subatomic particles have shown that mystery still exist, no matter how we try to pin it down, we still want proof. The fact that some mysterious force doesn’t intervene in the evil we do proves nothing. Read Karen Armstrong’s scholarly book called The Case For God, where she examines the evolution of religion and the scientific insights that developed because of the search for the answers…you’ll find our culture’s study and understanding are as deep as the silver on a quarter.
Amen, brother. There are smart people and stupid people, good people and bad ones, in every belief system. Neither prove anything one way or theother about the validity of the beliefs – although that may shed a little light on why people cling to the name a belief system which they have utterly rejected in practice.
