We not only live in a post-truth world, we live in a post-parody one as well. It is difficult to discern satire from reality in this day and age. I can’t tell you how many Trump tweets I have had to go and fact check and about half the time they turn out to be real, as crazy as they are. This is along those very lines. You well remember January 6 and the characters that crawled out of the cultural woodwork to smash windows and smear caa caa on the marble floors of the Capitol. The most gaudy of them all is the subject of this piece.

Now the next question in this upside down reality in which we dwell is, what are his chances of getting elected? So far we’ve heard the names Mike Johnson, Elon Musk and now Jake Angeli-Chansley (aka Jacob Chansley) as candidates for the Speakership. Chansley was among the first 30 rioters to breach the government building, where he then screamed “Freedom!” at the top of his lungs. Images of this character went viral around the world.
Chanley was sentenced originally to 41 months in prison but was released early due to good behavior. If he did achieve the post, he would be one of many ex-convicts in the administration of the convicted felon himself, Donald Trump. I can’t believe the words that my fingers type sometimes. I truly am having an existential crisis realizing what this dumbed down electorate of ours hath wrought.

We are at a place in history where it behooves us to consider a constitutional amendment that convicted felons may not run for president or hold office in either chamber of Congress. This is how debased our culture has become. Yes, this is comical on the one hand but it’s sobering as hell on the other that we’re even having this conversation.

I completely agree with this last thought. In fact, I am put in mind of George Bernard Shaw’s comment, “The longer I live the more convinced am I that this planet is used by other planets as an insane asylum.” Shaw was definitely ahead of his time. So was H.L. Mencken who said that “one day the White House will be occupied by a complete moron.”
These were two clear thinkers and good scribes of their day. I can only speculate what they would think if they were alive in this day and age. And I wish they were. Their comments were made about a hundred years ago and if they were here now, they might be making comments applicable to the year 2125. And what might those be? I think something similar to what Einstein said, “I can tell you that WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones.” How bad can things get before they collapse altogether?

Everyone who thinks they KNOW what reality is going to be after the sham swearing in ceremony is done needs to have their head examined. Having done many types of hallucinogens…it didn’t matter for the next trip. You pay your ticket…you take the ride. Exactly WHO THE HELL is going to be able to stop him this time with TOTAL IMMUNITY FOR ‘OFFICIAL’ ACTS? Answer: no phucking body unless there’s revolution in the streets…and Americans are wayyyyyyyyyyy too soft to put their OWN asses on the line for anygoddamnthing. We had NINE YEARS to do something about this pissant AND plenty of CLEAR signs just what an evil POS he is. Did it matter? NOPE. I’m giving fair warning in a quote in Hammett’s Red Harvest: “He wasn’t the sort of man whose pocket you would try to pick unless you had a lot of confidence in your fingers”. Maga you’ve been warned…none of you better phuck with me…you WILL regret it. Oh I’ll wait like everyone else to see what I should do, but I’m not a nice middle class kid who is afraid to face evil. I’ve faced it all my life. You’ve been warned you nazi bastards. You have no idea what REAL commitment means…as Dylan sang: you say you lost your faith. You know it’s not like that. You had no faith to lose and you know it. Or to paraphrase Pericles: those who can truly be counted as brave are those who know what is sweet in life, and what is terrible…then go out UNDETERRED to meet what is to come. Bring it on assholes. Bring it on…I’ve got something for you. You sorry morons think you’ve ‘won’…you haven’t really won a damn thing.
if you put a provision such as you describe in place, the Rs next move would be to invent felony charges for as many Ds as possible. not a good idea.
Hmmm, I actually don’t disagree with Chansley’s platform. Except that it’s as big a pipe dream as he is! ðŸ¤ðŸ¤ª
My initial reaction was to think of “Mr (Mis)Deeds goes to Washington” but then I realised I had melded “Mr Smith (James Stewart) Goes to Washington” and “Mr Deeds (Gary Cooper) Goes to Town”. In both cases, naive good triumphs over cynical evil. That said, one can’t overly disagree with his shopping list. Hell, it would romp home if there were a plebiscite. You rightly identify that he probably wouldn’t get elected (by the Republicans). I’d suggest his nomination on that platform would also flummox more than a few Democrats.
If you remember Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, it resolved because the senator he admired,(Claude Rains), was so guilt ridden he barged into the chamber and TOLD THE TRUTH! There are no such people in the gop. They have no conscience. America DOESN’T EITHER. Of course the greatest speech delivered by Jimmy was when he said:” you think I’m licked? Well…I’m not licked. I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause no matter if this room gets filled with lies like these.” I understand senator. We Scots don’t walk away from a fight. Never have. Never will.
Jacob Chansley prior to J6 was only known as an ego-maniac failed local Phoenix area actor with a history of drug abuse, multiple stays for treatment in mental health institutions, and diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Add convicted felon & ex-con since J6. Both he and Mike Johnson are full-blown anti-American insurrectionists, so no he would not be an improvement on Johnson as speaker. He has zero experience, he is only there to get attention, sow chaos, and stuff his pockets with dark $ bribes. Nothing about him is legit – other than failed 2-bit criminal & a drug addict.
