Matty is not having a good day and he has not been enjoying himself a tall a tall since he got the grim news that his former colleagues in Congress had voted by secret ballot to release the Ethics Committee report against him. That report must be hot, because Gaetz has moved heaven and earth and now petitioned the court in Washington, D.C. to block release of it. The Hill:

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., asks a judge to issue an emergency order blocking the report’s release.

Gaetz claims the committee is acting beyond its authority because it has no jurisdiction over him now that he has resigned from Congress. Gaetz’s attorneys said the report contains “untruthful and defamatory information” that would “significantly damage” his reputation.

“The Committee’s apparent intention to release its report after explicitly acknowledging it lacks jurisdiction over former members, its failure to follow constitutional notions of due process, and failure to adhere to its own procedural rules and precedent represents an unprecedented overreach that threatens fundamental constitutional rights and established procedural protections,” Gaetz’s attorneys wrote. […]

While the Ethics Committee does not have jurisdiction over former members of Congress, there is precedent to the panel releasing the report on ex-lawmakers — though it is rare. In 1987, for example, the committee released its report into former Rep. William Boner (D-Tenn.) after he resigned from the House.

The legal action could be the final battle for Gaetz in the years-long investigation into the firebrand Republican. Before the Ethics panel resumed its investigation, the Department of Justice had investigated Gaetz for sex trafficking and whether he had sex with a 17-year-old girl. The DOJ in 2023 declined to charge Gaetz with a crime.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire and Matty is steaming mad in his efforts to block the release of this report. He plans retaliation as well. If the report is released today, as predicted, Gaetz intends to be a whistle blower and talk of every illicit liaison that he’s ever seen his colleagues participate in, which could be something.

This could all blow up later today. Gaetz is apparently one of those people who figures that if he goes down in flames then so does everybody else. What else would you expect from somebody born with the silver spoon in his mouth, who has had the way paved for him every step? He’s not what you would call a balanced personality, able to deal with ups and downs.

That said, I am wondering what’s in the report for Gaetz to be moving heaven and earth like this to prevent its release. He’s pretty much damning himself with the admission that this lawsuit implies. If it was no biggy, then why not ignore it, right?

What boggles my mind is that if the report is “untruthful” and “defamatory” why worry? All Gaetz has to do is prove the untruthfulness and he’s home free. Unless, of course, he can’t prove that these things didn’t take place because they in fact did.

2024 has not been a great year for politics, God knows, but at least we’ve seen Gaetz get drummed out of politics. He’s supposedly planning a run for the governorship of Florida but if this report is damaging enough, that might not happen now. We’re going to find out soon.

    • Thank you, Marie. The table of contents alone indicates that this is not just about inappropriate sexual behavior with underage girls. This is an indictment of Gaetz’ complete inability to comport himself as a U.S. Representative should.
If Gaetz wants to reveal similar behavior from other Reps, that is a very good idea. My Rep, Veronica Escobar, is on the committee and I know she is capable of taking on more work without reducing her devotion to her constituents!

  1. Gosh no loyalty amongst thieves? Shocked I am! Hey mattie…weed? booze? ecstasy? virgins? I don’t understand what the problem is just because a young man wants to party and have some poontang. What’s this country coming to?

  2. I don’t know if the court considers the public good in their deliberations, but that seems to me a sufficient reason to release the report. Of course the committee has no jurisdiction over him anymore, but maybe the public has the right to know their findings.

    • Court considering the public good? Have you been following the highest law/court in the land and the evil they have and will do? The law is a gun held by the rich to the heads of the poor and powerless. Your naivete is perplexing given Trump will walk on EVERY CRIME HE HAS EVER COMMITTED AND WILL COMMIT! I wipe my ass with pages torn out of law books. The ‘law’ being for the common good was one of the greatest LIES ever sold to the moronic Americans. Ask the Indians at Wounded Knee. Ask the descendants of slaves. Ask the 700,000 arrested EACH YEAR since Nixon made cannabis users criminals while the LAW let that murderous traitor walk. I could go on but what’s the point?
