We are a culture that is going through some major upheaval. I don’t know when the listing political/cultural ship will right itself. I remain ever an optimist since this incoming regime that we’re dreading got only 49.7% of the vote. That’s high, but it’s not a majority, merely a plurality, and Kamala Harris came within one point. So we are divided right down the middle. All that said, Trump’s lies were believed by a great many people. He said that he’s going to bring down costs, stop inflation and he has a miraculous concept of tariffs that nobody in the world has ever heard of. Too bad reality bites, because Trump’s pink cloud nirvana version of tariffs sounds great. Shame it doesn’t work that way. The nonsense on tariffs and inflation comes early on in this interview. I don’t expect anybody to listen to the whole thing.

I am presuming that Kristen Welker, being a reasonably educated person, would know what a tariff is. And I’m sure that she does. But she did not challenge Trump because of course she didn’t. This is the fall into line crowd. But this is dangerous that misinformation on this level is emanating from a *trusted* news source, the Sunday political show that has been on the air longer than any of them.
And make no mistake, Trump only agreed to do this show today because he knew he wouldn’t have to defend his idiocy, that it would just fly out there and go unchallenged. This is the exchange that I found incredible.
KRISTEN WELKER: Economists of all stripes say that ultimately consumers pay the price of tariffs.
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP:
I don’t believe that. [Tariffs are now a question of “belief??”]
KRISTEN WELKER:
Can you guarantee American families won’t pay more?
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP:
I can’t guarantee anything. I can’t guarantee tomorrow. But I can say that if you look at my — just pre-Covid, we had the greatest economy in the history of our country. And I had a lot of tariffs on a lot of different countries, but in particular China. We took in hundreds of billions of dollars and we had no inflation. In fact, when I handed it over, they didn’t have inflation for a year and a half. They went almost two years just based on what I had created. And then they created inflation with energy and with spending too much. So I think we will — I’m a big believer in tariffs. I think tariffs are the most beautiful word. I think they’re beautiful. It’s going to make us rich.
Tariffs are not going to make anybody rich — well not anybody here. Here’s a textbook definition. A tariff is a tax imposed by a government on goods and services imported from other countries that serves to increase the price and make imports less desirable, or at least less competitive, versus domestic goods and services.
Trump is spinning tales out of whole cloth, like always. But nobody pushes back and Americans are apparently so stupid that they’d rather listen to a fabulist like Trump than go look up a definition. They will find out all too quickly when the inflation doesn’t vanish and the prices go up rather than down.
The only thing left then will be to see how Trump manages to blame Biden and Obama for the sad reality of the situation that Trump is now creating. Trump’s a blamer. He himself is blame-less. He never errs, unlike the rest of us poor humans. MAGA will get a degree in the school of hard knocks. And then another Democratic administration will come in and clean up the mess. Again. Like always.
They’re not just lies.
They’re bare-faced lies.
And there’s no challenge, no push-back, no questioning of them.
No wonder the ‘main stream media’ (i.e. non RWNJ media) is bleeding support and viewers/readers/listeners on a daily basis in the thousands.
If I want to watch fawning, obsequious, fact free propaganda, I can already watch Fox, why would I watch MSNBC now if I wanted an alternative to his acolytes.
It isn’t one, they have no purpose.
And, when the prices go sky high, I cannot wait to hear which Trump lie will be believed about why it is not because of him! China, Mexico, or probably those damned Canadians are undermining the beautiful tariff system to make Trump look bad!! Maybe the elitist Dems are gonna be guilty of treason because they are foreign agents making sure other countries don’t have to pay the tariffs that Trump says those countries have to pay!! The. Dems. Are. Making .The. Working. Class. Pay!! Whatever you say, Donald!! They’ll believe it!!
He inherited a booming economy from President Biden.
The inflation was caused by his mismanagement of covid response and his tax cut for the wealthy which added more to the deficit than any other resident.
President Biden did all he could to bring the country back to its former self (pre felon) all while fighting against the felon and his minions in elected office. He did a GREAT job. President Biden DID NOT cause the inflation. Look at the numbers. Consistently good.
The mainstream media must be boycotted for them to get the message that if they keep normalizing and sane washing the felon, we will NOT watch!
