Welcome to Fear World, a place that is the natural spinoff of Trump world, where we have been dwelling to some extent since that fantastical character left the realm of reality TV and tabloids and decided that politics should be conquered and subsumed by both of those tawdry endeavors. And Trump accomplished that. Trump has dragged down the level of political discourse to exactly the level of reality TV schmaltz and tabloids.
And MAGA loves it. They love the vulgarity, they love the violence. A certain segment of the American electorate is thrilled with the opportunity to lash out against the system that they blame all of their own personal shortcomings on. And Trump is the vehicle to get them there. The only problem is, that they don’t realize — yet — that they’re going to be on the receiving end of what the floofy-coiffed madman is going to unleash.
Meanwhile, we find ourselves in a situation where the Senate is controlled by the GOP, although not by much. The Democrats can still block horrifically unqualified MAGA candidates from being certified — IF there is less than a handful of Republican senators who will jump on the right side of history. But take a look at this video from 2021, where Lindsey Graham was, in essence, terrorized by a MAGA mob after he voted to certify the election.

Look at where Trump has dragged us down to. We are not a democracy as long as this level of intimidation is going on. This is not how a democracy works.

This is what we deal with now. It’s strongman time. It’s coup d’etat time. And those who don’t follow Trump’s lead willingly will follow it out of fear. You recall Josh Hawley running for his life, I’m sure.
We have to stay out of fear and out of anticipatory obedience. That is what personalities like Trump and his goons want.
As a Navy veteran who served proudly during JFK’s presidency and that of LBJ, I can only shake my head in sorrow as the state of affairs created by trump and his MAGA’s but incredibly and inexplicably approved of and reinstated by our electorate. Lindsey Graham knew what the right thing to do was following the insurrection but was cowed into backing the orange menace as were so many yellow bellied cohorts.
