Yes, I know the picture is of Trump trying to catch a baseball. However he was on the WH lawn hosting Mariano Rivera (a great relief pitcher) and a bunch of kids. Rivera maybe gave Trump flashbacks to his supposed oh so brief high school football career. The self-professed ‘tough guy’, ‘Alpha Male amongst ALL Alpha Males went on camera with a couple of dudes and talked about having QUIT playing high school football. He claimed to have been a tight-end with ‘good hands’ (not the greatest pass catching hands ever?) and cited weight lifting dudes from ‘bad neighborhoods’ (as in black guys) who ‘tackled really hard’ as the reason he gave up football.
HuffPost has an article up about this and if you need a pick-me-up in the form of a reason to make fun of Trump you’re welcome. This kind of thing perhaps explains why Trump’s handlers have been trying to limit him doing interviews. Personally I think he’d be better off sitting down with actual journalists at regular outlets – at least Fox if no one else. Getting into shooting the breeze with a couple of casual guys on some podcast that’s being recorded offers nothing but chances for Trump to say something stupid. Ok he always says stupid stuff but THIS is the kind of thing that might make some of the good ole boy MAGA’s go ‘Say Whaaaaat?’
It can be cleaned up of course. Still touting yourself as the ultimate kick-ass tough guy yet admitting back when you were in high school quitting football because you didn’t like being tackled is a massive self own. But there’s no mistaking Trump’s own words:

There’s a fair amount to unpack there. First is the two fellow white dudes laughing at Trump’s description of his tacklers in which he did everything but call them THUGS. He still doesn’t use the n-word publicly but when he says Thug that’s what he means. Some of the response tweets in the linked article suggest Trump ‘fumbled’ a bit with the ‘tight-end’ part being unsure about what position he claimed to play. Maybe Travis Kelce being in the news so much made him pick that position. Then there’s the fact that as was pointed out in the HuffPost piece that Trump’s high school was a small Military Academy. That didn’t have a football team!
I can’t wait for Tim Walz to start riffing on this on the campaign trail. Of course being twenty years younger Walz would have no trouble handling Trump in a FLAG football game but it would be fun for Walz to suggest it. This could be gold for us in Trump territory – social media and even billboards of Trump on that show (with the twitter link) saying ‘I quit football because people TACKLED me! What? Did he expect to just get to run to the end zone untouched if he caught a pass? Ok, we’re talking Trump and that’s precisely what he WOULD have thought. Had his school had a football team. And he actually played. Personally I don’t think he’d have lasted a single practice.
(Yes, I played my first two years in high school. Our varsity coach had been an all-pro lineman and played for the Eagles in an NFL Championship game in the early 1960s. As sophomores we practiced with the varsity during August. Despite being skinny I played center on offense and loved it. Wittenborn said my junior year he wanted to move me to split end, and for that reason and to concentrate on basketball I switched to cross country – coach Ashman was the cross-country coach)
Trump is a wimp. He always has been. Admitting it like this is more sign that he’s truly losing it intellectually. So if you run across some idiot talking about masculinity and how Trump is the perfect example hit them with this!

Empty boasts of an empty life by an empty man.
Lies on lies on lies, all easily disproved.
And they want you to vote for him?
Few of us like admitting when we’re wrong. Especially about something important and it’s even more true when others know of a choice we made. That WE know to have been wrong and perhaps spectacularly so. We simply don’t like admitting even to ourselves we were wrong, much less to others. So we rationalize, and even double and triple down hoping things will magically change and it will turn out we were right all along.
Sometimes people go past the point of no return. They create an entire fantasy about how right they were and how wrong OTHERS aren’t to see things the way they do. Facts and reason are fought like a five year old boy fighting soap and water after a day playing outside in the dirt. That my friend is why MAGAs are so hard to reach. It really is a cult.
Accepting your own mistakes and misjudgements is all part of maturing, getting past childhood, then adolescence, and emerging as a functioning adult. Trump has never succeeded in doing that. He’s mired somewhere between being a kid and a teenager. He’s never attained that level of self-realisation which allows a person to admit being wrong without suffering total humiliation. He had that reinforced by his mentor Roy Cohen, another stunted-development individual, whose mantra was “Never say you’re sorry.” We’re all victims of Trump’s failings, especially his poor deluded disciples.
He left football because other kids played….football? I guess the only question I have is this: hadn’t you been watching any football games, ever, in your life up until then? I don’t criticize people either not playing the game or finding out they don’t like it but perhaps that’s what he should have stated. The other guys hit him too hard is a pretty pansy thing to say. Still, it might be one of the few truthful things he has ever said in his life even if it is definitely a beta-male statement.
The question is where would he have played? His ‘military school” was a small place that stayed in business by taking in spoiled rich boys like him that their father’s didn’t want to be bothered with. Sure, they had regular cadets but for Trump types it was a place for them to pretend they were learning ‘discipline.’ That Trump (or the other rich kids) would actually shine their own brass or spit shine their own shoes is laughable! They PAID the regular kids to do that kind of thing. Administrators kept them from making too much mischief with awarding them ranks or bogus decorations. That was as much to keep the money flowing from the rich daddies as it was to appease the Trump’s under the charge. But the point is there was no football team. So again, just where would Trump have suited up in pads and actually learned to play a position, and then take part in an actual game against an opponent that wanted to win?
The whole story was just another Trump lie. Which he managed to turn into a self-own by saying he was too much of a wimp to keep playing! To put it bluntly he was a pu&&y that didn’t like being grabbed. And HIT at the same time! Now THAT would be a helluva sign or poster – A picture of Trump in that interview with the caption “I quit football because I’M a pu&&y that didn’t like being grabbed!”
If “it” dances like a Wussey Dork, then……it must be.
he never would have lasted through the pre-season physical training. he is a lazy slob and a cowardly creampuff.
not that I think kids should be playing tackle football, really. it sets them up for CTE later in life.
