I’ll try to make this short and sweet. Earlier this week former President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday. No other U.S. President has lived as long. The length of Carter’s post Presidency is longer than many people live.  While it’s only relatively recently Carter’s Presidency is being re-assessed and he’s starting to get long overdue credit his has unquestionably been the finest POST Presidency. I won’t list all he’s done but even political opponents expressed open admiration over the decades and as you’d expect tons of bipartisan well wishes were made. Except of course Trump, who can’t stand either not being the center of attention or someone being admired more than him had to go and take a dump on things.  However, if there’s a god and any justice in the universe Carter could with a simple action have the last laugh.

Today is October 4th. In the state of Georgia where President Carter lives in the simple home in Plains he shared with his beloved wife Rosalynn all those decades absentee ballots could be mailed out today. Also, come October 15 people can begin early voting in person. Given the logistics of getting Carter to location where early in-person voting takes place it’s safe to assume he’ll vote by absentee ballot. I’m sure Carter’s request for his ballot was already made so today or tomorrow it will be in the mail to him. Perhaps the rules will allow a relative to pick it up in person?  I’m not sure about that.

What I do know is down in Georgia and especially around the area where Carter lives he’s beloved.  DeJoy’s minions might play games with delivering ballots (both to voters and from voters returning them) but I can’t believe ANYONE handling Carter’s ballot will screw with things. He’ll have it before the end of next week. It can be completed and mailed back by this time next Friday night. Or if the rules allow delivered by a relative he designates to the county clerk’s office. Here’s the main thing to know:

Once Carter has completed his ballot and sent it back his vote is cast!  That’s right. I’d worried he might not make it until Nov. 5 and some A$$HOLE Republican would file a challenge to accepting Carter’s ballot and feeding it into the tabulating machine. And we all know there ARE Republicans that vile and despicable. However in the state of Georgia even if a person dies between the time they mailed back their ballot and election day their vote still counts!

It was reported well before his birthday Carter didn’t really care all that much about turning 100. His biggest goal was to vote for Joe Biden, and then when Biden stepped aside he quickly made it clear he was looking forward to voting for Kamala Harris.  Living long enough to see Harris declared the President-Elect and better still sworn into office next January would be a bonus. But what matters most to Carter is casting his ballot. A quiet, classy and simple gesture of “take THAT Trump!”

So pray, send out all the good karma you can, do rituals you’ve done before playing in an important athletic contest or making some big presentation at work. Whatever. Just send out whatever positive vibes you can come up with to god, karma, nature or the crumbling cookie that Jimmy Carter is with us for at least another week. To fulfill this one last wish he has.

I love telling the story about how the very first vote I cast was for Jimmy Carter. How I would love for Jimmy Carter’s final vote to be for Kamala Harris and against Donald Trump!  (And if someone takes a picture of Carter with his completed ballot sealed up in the return envelope and, after Trump loses posts it on twitter/X that would be the cherry on top.)

  1. Jealous much humpty dumpty? You won’t see 100…I’d bet you’ll be extremely fortunate to see mid 80s. Either way your name will go down as the only traitor who led an attempted violent coup while occupying the white house.

  2. Voting for Biden was icing on the cake. He had said for decades that his goal was to outlive the last Guinea worm (if you are squeamish, don’t look look up what that is, and especially do not look at any photos.) And, earlier this year, there was a full month when there were no active cases of Guinea worm in the world. Technically, there has to be nine months in a row with no cases world wide before we can call a disease eradicated, but that was a great sign. And now that that’s accomplished, he does plan to stick around long enough to vote for Kamala. And I am sure he will (and glad to hear it’s close – but if he wants to see her win, I believe he will. He seems to have a direct line somewhere important.)
