Not only is the Trump campaign desperate and flailing, so is Trump Media & Technology Group, which is the umbrella for Truth Social. Perhaps you recall that TMTG was going to be the next Amazon, having its own studios and creating original programming. Well, there have been a few flies in the ointment since then, based upon how $DJT has tanked since its IPO a few months ago.

CEO Devin Nunes got quite snippy this past week when mainstream media outlets began reporting that officers of the company were cashing out their shares. Some went so far as to speculate that Donald Trump would cash in on September 20, the first day that he is allowed to do so under law. Nunes sent out a memo to the Truth Social troops (of which I am comically one, because I go over there to spy) announcing that he was prepared to sue media outlets for saying such things. Of course he’s prepared to sue them. He’s the man who sued a digital parody cow once. But Devin has a plan to save the Trumptanic. At least the media portion of it, although I wish he would take over the campaign as well. That would beat all.

I don’t think OAN is going to be much of a draw, nor Real America’s Voice, but hey, there is something to be said for one stop shopping, I guess. And why not? Nunes needs to drag every pair of eyeballs to that site that he possibly can. What Nunes is proposing to do is take programming that either failed or was rejected on other platforms and put it on Truth Social but I’m having trouble following the reasoning that it will be successful there when it tanked elsewhere. Thoughts, anybody? Here’s my theory of where this new endeavor is going. Remember this?

Wait for the closing bell tomorrow. I’m willing to bet that the slide continues. Truth Social is a clumsy, amateurish platform, if you’ve never bothered to go over there. Twitter was made legitimate from the get go because a lot of first rate journalists saw it as a way to ply their trade in real time and get both news and commentary out there on the spot, from where a story was happening. A lot of those same journalists (particularly the independent ones) made their mark with the aid of Twitter.

Then a lot of people began to engage and threads became lengthy. There’s a certain amount of garbage on Twitter, always has been. But I would be lying if I didn’t say that I’ve also gotten great reporting in real time (the Trump trials being an example) and some very witty and entertaining memes and commentary. So like everything else in life, with Twitter you take the bad with the good.

Truth Social, on the other hand, doesn’t have an upside. There is virtually no *discourse* over there. There are angry rants and hostile memes about *executing* everybody from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles. “Traitor” is a common sobriquet. Everybody’s a traitor if they either oppose Trump or don’t sufficiently serve him.

Comically, J.D. Vance has gotten dissed on Twitter as well.

Let’s see what Nunes’ brave new Truth Social world looks like. Personally, I think that if anything, what he’s suggesting will hasten its demise.

  1. Nunez has a mediocre education, family ran a dairy farm and has no business qualifications or a rich father like the scumbag. No wonder Truth Social is on life support. Not to mention what a right wing loser he is. Just like Trump to pick people as retched as he is. J.D. Vance, for example.

  2. I think they believe the attraction will be to provide a platform for programs that are so extremest that every streaming service has dropped them. But Rumble already does allow so much MAGA and Qanon content that I don’t think TS doing this will be the seismic event Nunes envisions. Besides, the hard-core MAGAs with any technological savvy are already on TS. So this won’t attract any newcomers. As for advertisers, Elon Musk saw what happens to advertising dollars when you welcome fascists and other hate groups onto your platform.
