Stuart Stevens is one of the co-founders of the Lincoln Project and he’s predicting the doom of the GOP — along with everybody else in either the GOP or the Democratic party who has normal brain function. This is not exactly new information. But apparently it is to the die hard MAGA Republicans and the old school Republicans who believe that some miracle will take place in November and they’ll trick the American electorate like they did in 2016.
You remember the old line, “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.” The electorate isn’t going to get fooled again in 2024 although that’s the play by Mitch McConnell, Mike Johnson, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Tim Scott, and we could list just about ever single elected Republican official right here and now. That’s what they need to believe because, 1.Most of them are incapable of original thought so they just follow the old playbook; 2. They need to believe in a miracle; but 3. Most importantly, they haven’t got the guts to cut bait. But they will. Because they can only keep losing for so long until as Stevens puts it “survival kicks in” and changes are made.
Larry Hogan and John Bolton were ready to cut bait. Bolton has a perfectly nutty idea about writing in Dick Cheney’s name as president and probably that’s what he’ll do. And frankly, that makes a hell of a lot more sense than voting for Trump. Maybe Bolton should suggest it at the GOP convention. And Larry Hogan would like to see Republicans take advantage of this opportunity to put Trump in the rear view mirror and nominate somebody else. That suggestion of his has made him a social pariah. Geoff Duncan has said he will vote for Biden and maybe he’s just considered small potatoes being the former Lt. Governor of Georgia and nobody cares what he thinks. But the fact is, until the GOP makes that fundamental decision to cut the Trumpbilical cord and operate on its own, post-MAGA, it’s going to keep losing.
We must vote blue all the way down the ballot for a couple elections. Give the gop time to clean up their party. After a couple elections, then we see how they are doing.

The GOP made a fatal decision to put Trump on its ballot in 2016. It made an even more fatal decision not to bump him from the ticket when the Access Hollywood scandal happened. And yes, he did win and they got some judgeships and three Supreme Court seats, in exchange for 1.1 million Americans dead from COVID and the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover, followed by the Insurrection on January 6, a second impeachment, and the incarceration of many people who blindly followed Trump, believing that he would provide legal fees and protect them.
Trump in politics has been a disaster. But Stevens is right. Pain is the only teacher and when the GOP loses in November, and again in 2026, and yet again in 2028 (will Trump still be on the ballot, for a fourth try?) then at some point there’s going to have to be a reckoning and a NovoGOP party (that’s not a bad name for the New Republicans) will rise from the wreckage.
The idea of a progressive and conservative party in this country is sound. We don’t have a conservative party right now. We have the lunatic fringes of the old Republican party united under the MAGA banner and pushing conspiracy theory, Civil War II, the Great Replacement, and neo-Nazi ideology. It’s too much of a fractured, toxic mess to endure.
Plus, MAGA is a personality cult. You take away the charismatic cult leader and there’s no more cult. Many people think they will be the inheritor to MAGA, Ron DeSantis being the poster child, but he has no chance. MAGA is Trump, period.
Stevens makes a compelling argument here for how the GOP is alienating people. The lies are transparent and they are progressively more and more grandiose to the point of being grotesque. Yes, right-wing media consumers will believe whatever they’re told, but *normal* Americans, such as the twelve jurors that sat on the Trump jury, are not going to buy the martyrdom fantasy. It’s simply too fantastic.
Mitch McConnell is through. He co-signed on the latest conspiracy theory that “charges never should have been brought,” but don’t expect him to do much more. The tortoise has run many a race, he’s done. Mike Johnson is a place holder. He won’t have the gavel in November. Rick Scott may take over for McConnell, that will be something to see if it happens. And who knows who the House minority leader may be? It could be Johnson, or it may pass on to somebody else.
The GOP is in its last days and dying. The Novo GOP or NoGOP is not yet born. Childbirth is painful, that we know. And this is going to be a long labor, going on for many more years now. How many? As many more as the GOP wants to spin its wheels in the dirt, that’s how many. Lindsey warned you folks. You should have listened to him.

Every talking head talks about trump’s ‘charisma’. If an overweight con man who shits his britches is your idol…do the world a favor and throw yourself off a bridge…your perceptions are so phucked up, you are not only deplorable but irredeemable. Next you’ll be drinking piss and claiming the bouquet is fabulous. Or just drink your grapejuice to see Jesus…that works too. After all Hitler claimed HE was a Christian also…God what a phucking world we are handing our children.
Lady G should have listened to himself.
A fourth run at the w.h. for Von Shitzinpants is pretty unlikely-if he isn’t tit’s up at his new cemetery at Bedminster he’ll definitely be in a nursing home and it will likely be one of those with the security doors that keep the dementia patients locked in for their own (and others) safety. And no, Qusay, Uday, the princess and melania will NOT be taking care of him in their homes: they’ve all got the “everyone for themselves” mentality and they have it in spades.
The ‘pubes are not going to learn their lesson now or in the future. They’ve used this non-platform platform for years now, have not developed a different one, and changed nothing about themselves in the past couple of elections losing what should have been easy pickings. They are quite obviously insane: they change nothing but expect different results.
There are no republicans anymore, only MAGApublicans! I have been saying for decades that there were getting to be way too many stupid people. Now we have the most concrete of proof in the MAGA cult!
Gotta disagree with you Nonya, there are plenty of intelligent republicans who have rational and thought-out conservative views. But they are all in the Democratic party at this moment and some are even on MSNBC offering very rational non-“progressive” counterpoints. Were there a Larry Hogan-Bob Dole-Eisenhower GOP they would all be part of it. But right now, of the two parties, only one listens to viewpoints and tries to come up with rational policies for all Americans, not just their “loyal subjects”. With luck, some day there will again be a place to the right-of-center for intelligent people who are more conservative than progressive. And that’s not just “ok”, it will also be a darn good thing!
There’s an old saying in Tennessee—I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, ‘Fool me once, shame on…shame on you. Fool me—you can’t get fooled again gbush
“Where are all the good men dead in the heart or in the head?”
And if to Trump yourself did wed, die upon that burning bed.
