This is precisely the thing that I take issue with the legacy media over. This is an important news story and yet it gets zero coverage. You well remember the furor back in 2016 when Hillary Clinton commented on the “basket of deplorables” that supported then-candidate Donald Trump. “Deplorable” became the most Googled word that week. All the newspapers devoted many column inches to the story. It was quite the to-do. Yet fast forward to 2024 and again-candidate Donald Trump posts a video which calls for the “getting rid of” of “fucking liberals” and that just sails under the radar, completely unnoticed.
This is an actual video that Trump posted to his Truth Social. It’s a vulgar attack on Joe Scarborough that proclaims Trump “will get rid of all the fucking liberals” if he wins.

Joe Scarborough was in the parking garage at Newark Liberty International Airport. He handled himself very adroitly, I thought, and that probably made the MAGA lunatic even crazier. But the abuse of Scarborough, and the threat to “get rid of” a class of people when “Uncle Donny” is back in power is demented. But that didn’t stop the GOP presumptive nominee from posting it. And if questioned about it, I have no doubt but that the answer would be, “Oh, c’mon it’s just a joke. Can’t you people take a little joke?”
I think a threat of extermination is not a joke. And it certainly eclipses Hillary’s comment, which is very tame by comparison, about “deplorables.” Ms. Clinton was not advocating getting rid of the deplorables, she was merely noting that they existed. That’s quite a different thing.
But what the two scenarios have in common is that they highlight the utter polarization of politics in this country since the GOP decided to give up and give its party to the game show host from the TV set and see what happened. We have seen what happens. Trump has only gotten kookier in the interim since 2016. He’s now facing one imminent criminal conviction — or perhaps a hung jury, but nobody sees acquittal on the horizon.
See this video for what it is. It is a call to violence. It is a promise that Uncle Donny will get rid of the people that he hates and that MAGA hates. This is sheer madness. Yet, as stated, it’s flying right under the radar. The only place you will find this video is on social media or a leftist blog like this one.
And this is an egregious mistake. One lesson I learned the hard way when Trump won in 2016 is what a bubble I had been living in, not knowing what was on Fox News or right-wing media. There were only a few outlets covering that at the time, notably Right Wing Watch. I immediately subscribed and began looking through their archives.
I realized that had I known what Right Wing Watch was observing for years, I would not have been surprised that Trump won. In fact, I would have been prepared for it. Hillary Clinton said she was “the victim of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.” She’s right. For 20 some years, the right-wing media made up fantasies about both Hillary and Bill.
I saw videos of the alleged airstrip that took drugs to the governor’s mansion in Arkansas, all of that. It never existed, of course, but to people who were graduates of the University of You Tube, this is what they watched and this is what they believed. I also saw a video that proposed that Hillary was a space alien reptile. This is batshit. BUT there are people watching this and believing it.
At that moment, I had an epiphany and I vowed that I was going to pay attention to all of this and write about it. And I did. Vigilance is the price of liberty. We live in a world where unethical people have found a good dollar to be made in spreading falsehoods and lies as truth. We need to stand up to them. I hope that the mainstream media will start reporting on stories like this dreadful video.

As I recall, Hillary made “the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy” comment to deny Bill’s alleged dalliance with Monica Lewinsky. Hillary turned out to be wrong about that, but that was enough for right-wing extremists to claim she was untrustworthy.
Perversely, Trump’s pattern of lying actually helps him among his sycophants. Whenever he says something truly outrageous, we are told it’s a joke, you can’t take him literally, etc. Apparently, being honest and trustworthy only matters for candidates other than Trump.
