This is an interesting development and it comes at an interesting time. It appears things, in particular Trump’s lawyers have changed opening a rift between Trump & his lawyers and Trump’s actual campaign people. The timing is interesting because as you know Trump’s appeal of his immunity will be argued before the DC Court of Appeals early next week. Trump’s campaign is distancing itself from a debunked “report” about the 2020 election that has been cited by Trump’s lawyers in his appeal. You can be sure even if the judges on the panel don’t ask about it Jack Smith’s team will be using it against Trump and get the questions flowing. In an article posted today the Washington Post tells us Trump made a post on Truth Social “riddled with falsehoods” about the 2020 election. He just can’t let go of his Big Lie. Even though is campaign, and until now his lawyers have wanted him to do. Or at least not talk about. (More like they wish he’d just STFU and look forward instead of backwards!)
The report which has no date or author listed is said to have been written by Eve, er LIZ Harrington who’s a polarizing figure in Trump World. However, Trump likes her and that’s what matters most. According to the WaPo article it’s pretty much all the stuff Trump and his minions have tossed out before, all of which has long since been debunked. What I find interesting is that Trump has been itching to release this report for a long while. Trump even teased doing so this summer but his legal team argued strongly against doing so:
Trump even previewed the report in August, writing in a Truth Social post that “a Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete & will be presented by me at a major News Conference.” That press conference, however, never occurred, after lawyers intervened and urged him to cancel.
The WaPo article quotes Jessica Marsden, Counsel to Project Democracy basically calling the report a rehash of the “greatest hits” of 2020 election conspiracy theory. That not only is there nothing that’s actually new, when one drills down on various news outlets that are cited in it there’s no evidence to back up any of the claims. Still, Trump has always seemed to feel, as he teased before cancelling his Bigly Reveal presser last summer the public needed to see it. Being Trump, following sound advice is something he can only manage to do for so long before he gives in to his own urge to show HE knows more than anyone else and dons his “I don’t need no stinking advisors” personae.
The campaign isn’t commenting publicly but they aren’t happy about this. And apparently no one from the campaign or others in Trump’s orbit new he was going to post it last week. Maybe his lawyers knew in advance (and probably said don’t do it) but if he was determined there was nothing they could do but go along:
Yet that same day, as Trump and his lawyers promoted the report — which one of his campaign aides wrote, according to people familiar with the matter — others in his campaign started distancing from it. A campaign spokesperson declined to comment and another campaign aide referred questions to the legal team. “This was not posted to the campaign’s website and we’re not lawyers,” said the aide, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the matter more freely. Trump’s legal team declined to comment through a spokeswoman.
Again, what I find interesting is that for all their opposition Trump’s lawyers are now on-board with using this rag of a bullsh*t report in court. I can’t help but think he simply overruled their objections (pun intended) and given a choice between doing what he demanded or getting fired they submitted like “good little Trumpies.” So what we have is this rift in Trump world, which with all Trump’s legal troubles and polling showing that among Republicans who are still willing to hold their noses and vote for Trump their support is soft if he gets taken down in court.
Except for the hard-core MAGAs the country is sick of hearing Trump’s 2020 election claims. Worse, if he’s convicted the majority of Republicans won’t vote for him and since if his DC trial starts in March it will be done with ten or so primaries let Trump could suffer a string of losses. Being a convicted felon who has started losing primaries is NOT what he needs going into the convention.
However, that’s politics and what I think we should look for is the effect his lawyers making this report part of the immunity appeal might have. It sure as hell won’t help. If anything it will not only hurt Trump but prompt the panel on the DC Circuit to swiftly (as in days) reject the appeal. And do so in terms that cause the full DC Court of Appeals to equally swiftly reject an En Banc hearing, and then SCOTUS to deny Cert. All well before the end of January. Worse, the appellate court can rule judge Chutkan can resume pre-trial work! All of that means Trump’s DC trial will in fact begin in March. Maybe not in the first week as scheduled but well before the end of that month.
If the rift between “Trump Legal” and “Trump Campaign” is serious already, Trump World in general will slowly collapse. Stay tuned.

The bible has a similarly themed parable does it not?
We, on our side, still would prefer Trump as candidate, but the more flawed and damaged, the better. Not enough to remove him as candidate, but enough to limit any appeal he has amongst sane voters. It’s a tricky balancing act, but, luckily we’re helped by his acolytes in an ironically perverse way.
In a choice between a properly promoted Biden, and an over-hyped Trump, who would any sane voter choose?

We’re all waiting for this to be a headline in MSM, but all we got today was: Biden & Obama met last summer”.
