I do enjoy the Never Trumpers. And of course, in that particular sect, there are different levels of Never Trumpers. There are the ones that rejected him at the outset, the ones that hated him but voted for him twice anyway, and then there are the ones who finally rejected Trump after the Insurrection. Yes, Liz Cheney, we’re talking about you.
Geoff Duncan used to be the Lt. Governor of the State of Georgia. He’s been called to testify against Trump in the election interference case in that state. Trump has reviled Duncan on Truth Social and Duncan has had a lot to say about Trump. Here is his latest.
“moral compass of an axe murderer” is a line so good it puts me in a jealous rage—dang ❤️🔥 https://t.co/3bhGxpnUD0

I like this guy. I venture to say he has the same bonkers worldview as Ronnie Raygun and believes in the trickle down economics delusion and all that, but he and I see eye to eye on Donald Trump at least. The New Republic:
Trump and his 18 co-defendants will be arraigned in Georgia on September 6. Trump has repeatedly insisted that he did nothing wrong. But the state’s Republican leaders aren’t having any of it.
In addition to Duncan, Kemp is one of the few Republicans to have explicitly shut down Trump’s claims. Trump pleaded with Kemp to get the state legislature to override the election results and appoint new electors who would back Trump, but Kemp refused to cave.
“The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen,” Kemp tweeted after Trump was indicted. “For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward—under oath—and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor.”
Trump also infamously begged former Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” 11,780 votes—the exact number needed to flip the state’s election results to Trump. Raffensperger has refused to play ball too.
“The most basic principles of a strong democracy are accountability and respect for the Constitution and rule of law,” he said after Trump was indicted. “You either have it, or you don’t.
Now Duncan’s preaching the gospel. That’s what both parties have in common and that is the bedrock of this country, accountability, the Constitution and the rule of law. Without them we are nothing, we are anarchy. I hope other people listen to the man. Because he’s right, Trump is the worst mistake this country has ever made. And it was a mistake the GOP made. They need to police their own.
We need two functioning political parties in this country to keep democracy. I hope the GOP can straighten itself out but I don’t see it. I see it crashing and burning and some new conservative party rising from the ashes. I guess we’re going to find out.

I honestly do not believe there is any such thing as a “classic conservative” left. ALL we have now are corrupt, opportunistic grifters who see the path to looting the public coffers and grabbing all the fame and power possible for themselves. Everything left of the “conservative movement” is corrupt, performance assholery. All of it.
Did you mean remaining of the conservative movement?
Everything right of it certainly is as you describe.
… and quite possibly, he’s not the sharpest axe on the wood pile either. But just as, if not, more murderous.
