Donald Trump is out on the golf course today and that’s a good thing. If he was listening to the Sunday shows and hearing how Chris Sununu is ripping him up and predicting his doom, woe betide any ketchup bottles that might be lying around within reach. I will dutifully monitor Truth Social, as always, to see the explosion.
In this clip, Sununu points out that Trump is polling at 40% in Iowa and 41% in New Hampshire, and no, I don’t know where he’s getting this information. I can tell you that in South Carolina, Trump is still leading. The upset there recently was that Tim Scott was polling second, upsetting Ron DeSantis’s applecart.
Sununu’s message is that if Trump gets the nomination, he won’t beat Biden, but that Trump might not even get that far.
“Donald Trump cannot actually win the votes in November of ’24. He can get the nomination, but he can’t actually close the deal against Biden,” Republican Gov. Chris Sununu tells @JonKarl. https://t.co/5pF7Jfjkhj pic.twitter.com/ASsIXsNcm5

I wish I could step into a time machine and just go forward enough to see if a constitutional democracy survives. The great screenwriter in the sky is certainly toying with us on this one: Will we actually have a presidential election where one of the candidates will get tried in a court of law and sentenced to prison? Or, will Trump actually find a way to delay and derail all the legal actions?
And will it matter? Because if Sununu is correct, Trump won’t beat Biden and then the election won’t be his last ditch attempt to stay out of prison anymore. It will be just one more event before the real game changer happens, and he gets convicted of one or more of his crimes.
Then the question will be whether Joe Biden pardons him and let’s leave that on the back burner for a while. Because that’s a two-edged sword. If Biden does a Gerald Ford, then the message sent there is that a U.S. president can get away with anything and the next president will give him a Mulligan. If, on the other hand, Biden lets the wheels of justice turn to their inevitable result, then he’ll be a heartless monster, allowing an old orange man to die in prison, with no Diet Coke, or Big Macs, or tanning spray or even a hairdresser. Probably Melania would take Barron and go to Europe, on those facts, and there would go the conjugal visits.
Let’s stay in the now, but at least we can fantasize about what’s coming.
I think it’s interesting that Sununu decided to forego this election cycle. I think he’s setting himself up for a run in 2028. A Newsom/Sununu race would be quite intriguing. But again, I’m getting way ahead. Let’s see what happens in the days and weeks ahead. We need to live through 2024 first or there might not be a 2028 — at least with a presidential election in it.

No Democrat in their right mind will pardon Dimwit Donny. Just from the point of view of justice and one law for all. Absolutely no-one should be exempt from responsibility for their actions, particularly actions as heinous, harmful, and treasonous as these are.
What is particularly irritating is that this is the former leader of the self-proclaimed ‘Party of Self Responsibility’, and the Party of ‘Tough on Crime and Criminals’. What would they be screaming if a Democratic President had done even one per cent of Trump’s criminal activity?
I find myself surprised at how continually surprised I am by their venal hypocrisy, but it appears that it is all they have to offer as any ethics policy.
“What would they be screaming if a Democratic President had done even one per cent of Trump’s criminal activity?”
Why are you asking such an inane question? We already saw the answer to that just a quarter century ago. Bill Clinton. He became the subject of an investigation based on a land deal he’d been involved with before becoming President, an investigation which wound up being diverted into an investigation of an ill-advised but still consensual sexual relationship with an intern AND resulted in a decision that a SITTING PRESIDENT COULD BE INVESTIGATED for allegations of sexual impropriety and assault while in office. (Somehow, the GOP which led to all of that in the 90s seemed to change its tune when it came to Trump. Suddenly, they believed you couldn’t charge–or even investigate–a sitting President for anything because “immunity.”)
And, of course, Trump spent his entire 2016 campaign based on the idea that he’d “lock up” Hillary Clinton for all her crimes (even though Trump never specified any single crime that merited imprisonment during any of his rhetoric–his only thing was “her emails”). And his supporters were right behind him.
It’s just like the nonsense investigations about the Biden White House “weaponizing the government” that Trump’s performance artist supporters in Congress are going on about. It’s as if they completely forgot how Trump actually did weaponize the government (and his attempts–past and future–to rid the government of “disloyal” civil servants and replacing them with only pro-Trump people).
but watch as he is incarcerated his cult will take it upon themselves to
create havoc unless he is pardoned or freed.
guaren-damn-teed…
(karen-damn-teed??)😆😆
(it’s what the delays and fuss in the DOJ is all about.)
If TFG gets convicted in NY and/or GA, a federal pardon won’t do him any good. The jury is out on whether NY Gov Hochul is dumb enough to pardon him, but GA Gov Kemp doesn’t have the ability. And if I were him, I’d rather do my time in a federal prison as opposed to a state one.
iam sure diaper Donnie figures he will not see a jail cell that’s why he is on deny and lie mode constantly, but his co crime buddies are going to prison onless they flip on the old treasonous PABitch.
he’ll elbow and push his way into anything but a court room or a jail cell.
he’s a dangerous maniacal despot with two things on his mind. Ivanka and prison.
god damn the pusher man…
