Ari Melber is one of MSNBC’s sharpest hosts and that’s especially true when it comes to legal questions. Melber is a lawyer who fully appreciates the devastating nature of the evidence Dominion has dropped in Fox’s lap and how it may force Fox into a multi-billion dollar settlement, the risk of trial, and a “Come to Jesus” moment for Rupert Murdoch. Rupert may realize that he can’t afford to go as far as the Republican party wants or needs him to go in the future with respect to lies and propaganda.

After all, according to Melber, Murdoch is learning quite a lesson from the fallout of the last election. From Rawstory:

“Now, if you followed Mr. Murdoch’s career … as a factual matter, you don’t get far betting against him. Even when he’s down or seemingly out, he finds ways to pivot, and sometimes that means throwing people under the bus.

He seems ready and willing to do that here at least with his so-called executive team. Sometimes it means getting rid of famous anchors, which he did with [Lou] Dobbs and which some companies suing Fox feel is a step they knew they were going too far.”

Dobbs was so deep into the cult that he once credited Trump with making it possible for Americans to enjoy weekends. (Psst. We had weekends under Obama, too.)

“Whether you count Mr. Murdoch out or not, what we’re seeing, filing after filing, day after day, is a case where there is so much mounting evidence that if this does get to trial, that might be the worst thing for the Fox News empire and Rupert Murdoch that we’ve seen in years, and according to the plaintiffs, that would be a very good thing indeed for restoring some standard of truth and accountability in our polarized politics and media at a time when people are trying to literally overthrow the government, commit sedition, and kill innocent Americans in the name of lies that they often heard on Fox News.”

Most of the people that are always complaining about lawyers as “ambulance chasers” and people only interested in suing the UPS truck that hurt the hands of the neurosurgeon don’t realize there is the reason our common law is built up such as it is. There is very much a component meant to serve the public “good,” in all our torts and civil cases. This is especially true with public defamation cases against the media. It is a needed check on blatant lies of the type that destabilized our society over December and January of the 2020 election season.
