Trump obviously sees his Ohio trip as a complete success. He got to play president again, visiting a disaster site. Ironically, in 2017, a major train accident occurred in Washington DC itself, with fatalities and ramifications that slowed the entire city down. Trump never visited, nor did he send in FEMA. Of course, it was in the Washington, DC, area, and there were no votes to be gained.
Trump sees the trip as a success even though he was confronted about slashing regulations that might have prevented the accident altogether. He said that he had no knowledge of it. But he got to throw hats, deliver Trump water, buy McDonald’s for the crews, and even tell the people that he saved football during COVID.
NO network covered the trip. And yet, last night, Trump posted the “ratings” of his trip on Truth Social.
Sorry, the picture isn’t bigger. But it is hilarious that Trump believes that he had 144 Million in social media exposure and 37 million in traditional media exposure, which would add up to approximately half the country. The Morning Joe mockery conversation is too long to block quote, so I’m just setting it out in italics:
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Meanwhile, former President Trump continues to treat the disaster like a TV show with more statements that are all about him.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: He actually talked about his, Wille! He talked about his ratings. He said the TV ratings for the coverage while I was here, this place where these people are suffering were massive. Well, of course, it wasn’t covered on TV, so I don’t know what imaginary world he’s living in this week, but just bizarre, more bizarre, bizarre statements from this guy.
WILLIE GEIST: More bizarre and also at the scene and the site of such a tragedy to immediately go to the ratings and Trump water and handing out the hats at the McDonald’s and all of that.
But you were, you make an important point. He’s losing his grip a little bit when he says that just because it wasn’t taken live, there were no ratings, as if that mattered to this. But since he brought it up, there were no ratings for his appearance in East Palestine, Ohio.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: And again, so the guy goes there and he’s handing out bottles of water and talking about Trump Water. Trump water. Trump water. He’s handing out campaign hats again for a community he absolutely devastated. And he’s going around bitching and moaning about, “oh, these people, they’re suffering so much. And what is a Biden administration does?”
He uses it as a branding exercise? I mean, again, that’s the bizarreness of Donald Trump. And then he decides to lie about ratings. “Oh I went there and my ratings were high. They were they were massive.”
There were no ratings. Nobody, nobody covered it.
He IS losing his grip. Trump seems to sense that he’s having a tough time getting traction especially compared to the last race he ran. That is not to say that Trump can’t win, but there is an air of desperation, and the Morning Joe crew was right to call him out on it.

It would be harder if someone brought an indictment. That would get good ratings I’m sure. Look at the trial coverage of that asshole in South Carolina. Ahhh. To imagine…all the networks showing him being arrested! Now I’d drop everything for that. Not holding my breath however. Dreaming is free…at least until the fascists take over.
I’m so sick of this trial on my news coverage. The guy is guilty AF, and it’s obvious. The damned prosecution is doing a horrific job. They spent hours on financial crimes that were all admitted to, boring the living hell out of the jury, until they finally get to the part that matters, that he makes no sense on the timeline.
We all are Jason. If the prosecution is making sure they can definitely prove his guilt, and that would be absolutely necessary for this, then maybe they’re doing what they should be doing. Hell, I’m not a lawyer for all the law classes I’ve had to take in my lifetime, but who knows what all it will take to get this fucker convicted. All I do know is that it had better be real obvious to a fucking sub-moronic I.Q. holding person that he’s guilty because depending on where a jury trial takes place, those will be the magats on the jury.
Granddaddy hands the power to daddy and daddy hands it to him. His son, a raging narcissist, in a drunken rage, drives a boat like a maniac at night, hits a bridge, and kills a girl…walks with daddy’s help. And to think, some still believe in equal justice under law believe it or not. I expect him to walk on the murders although the financial crimes of robbing disabled people of their settlements might keep him in jail. Blame the addiction. When did being an addict become a get our of jail free card? Doesn’t work that way for black people.
