This didn’t take long. if you think you’re not going to see more heartbreaking headlines like this one, you are dreaming. This is the shape of things to come in this country and it is tragic. The Hill:

A 10-year-old girl was denied an abortion in Ohio after the Supreme Court ruled last week that it was overturning Roe v. Wade, demonstrating the tangible impacts that the high court’s decision is having on patients seeking access to the medical procedure.

A child abuse doctor in Ohio contacted Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an obstetrician-gynecologist in Indiana, after receiving a 10-year-old patient who was six weeks and three days pregnant, the Indianapolis Star reported.

That patient is now heading west to Indiana given that an abortion ban in Ohio, which prohibits the medical procedure when fetal cardiac activity begins, around six weeks, had become effective quickly after the high court issued its decision. […]

But Indiana could soon find itself passing its own abortion law later this month given that a special session has been scheduled for later in July and the legislature is expected to touch on a ban on the medical procedure, WFYI reported.

Any law that would force a ten year old girl, the victim of child abuse and rape, to bear her rapist relative’s offspring is patently insane. There is no justification for such a law, either morally or in common sense. What has happened to this country? A 10-year-old should be riding her bike, playing with her toys and dreaming her dreams, not preparing to bear the spawn of an insane relative and raise it. I am beyond words right now. This is misogyny raised to a galactically exponential level, to allow this to take place.

  1. And at 6 weeks, it’s still an embryo and weeks or months from having an actual heart (or brain!) and from being even close to a potential human life.
(also, 6 weeks is about the *earliest* you can find out if you’re pregnant.)

  2. I can’t believe that I’m paying taxes for this.
What I mean by This is that I can’t believe I’m paying the salaries of people that use their office to attack vulnerable people in this country (yes, Sinema and Manchin, I refer to you, too). That’s my weekend rant, now to fight against the recent rulings that harm our country, as a citizen ought to.

  3. Amazingly, the same assholes who would force this girl to carry her rapist’s child to term will also be the same morons who attack Islam and Muslim countries for “allowing” such practices as “child brides” and “forced marriages” to occur.

Fundamentalism is a bane, no matter what religion espouses it. And, it’s kind of interesting that fundamentalism in Islam (which would take power in Iran in 1979) was so quickly condemned and criticized in the West even as fundamentalism in Christianity was beginning its own ascension to political power.

    • I used to think that making Muslim women cover up, so as not to tempt men, was a way of making women responsible for men’s lack of self control. Lately, I realized we do it here too. Nowhere in this abortion argument are men held to account for their part in the scenario.

      • Actually, most of the (male) clerics have essentially admitted that the women covering up has largely been because men shouldn’t be held accountable or responsible if they behave in a “lustful” or “improper” manner. The more reasonable clerics have noted that the Qur’an demands “modest dress/attire” of ALL Muslims, male and female alike (basically, good Muslim men shouldn’t be wearing speedos at the beach any more than good Muslim women should be wearing bikinis).
It’s been the (male, of course) fundamentalist extremists who’ve pressed the extreme attire of the burqa and the niqab even though both have been part of the pre-Islamic traditions and customs of many areas in Southwest Asia and North Africa (of course, men wore–and still wear–similar garb as a matter of protection from the elements which still factors in as a reason for the garb in much of these areas today).
The main problem is, with a lot of the modern Muslim world, it’s difficult to know which women are voluntarily choosing to wear these and which women are wearing it out of fear. (It should also be noted that a lot of Christian women in the Balkans wear similar garb though veiling the face is far less common. The more rural the area and the older the women, the more likely it is they’ll wear hijab/chador-like clothing–or, to give a more western frame of reference, nun habits.)

And, as far as the clothing issue is concerned in America, all you have to do is look at all the recent stories of teen girls who’ve been sent home from school for wearing “sexy” clothes and most of the school officials have basically been quoted as saying the girls are a “distraction” to the boys. Rather than teaching boys to learn how to control their own lustful thoughts, it’s so much easier to punish the girls. (And, unfortunately, there are still too many incidents where women testifying against rapists and sexual harassers have to prove that they weren’t wearing “provocative” or “sexy” clothes–in other words, that they weren’t inviting the rape or harassment.)

        • When I was in Jr. High and H.S., girls wore cutoffs, tube tops, halter tops, etc. in the hotter weather. None of them were subjected to predatory behavior by the male teachers, we boys paid as much attention as we always did in our classes (can’t blame anyone but ourselves for wool-gathering), and no one raped anyone. Rape was unheard of in the school district (just outside Chicago). Hell, it was unheard of in the towns making up the school district. It is not the clothing at all and never was. It is all UPBRINGING. You want to know what my father told my brothers and I about putting our d*cks in unwilling girls/women? He would personally cut them off. We were also informed of what would happen if we hit a girl/woman (probably would not be walking ever again). We knew there were consequences for disobeying because we received proper punishment for our bad behavior way before it became anything more than misbehaving in minor ways. We were held responsible for bad grades and the assumption was, accurately, WE were not paying attention or doing our homework.

Somewhere along the way boys have been given a pass for bad behavior. They are not held responsible when they f*ck up. Blame is put on anything and everything other than were it belongs: on the child. Children brought up this way go on to have their own children which they will bring up like they were brought up. So our boys are not held responsible for their behavior when they are boys and often grow into men who think they can do whatever the f*ck they want to women and for that matter anyone.

  4. At least the child was able to rid herself of the fetus. At 10 years old this was statutory rape so my question is this: was the pedophile put in prison yet? My understanding is people in prison do not treat pedos very well so we can only hope this pedo gets his male member cut off and shoved down his throat thereby chocking the P.O.S. to death. A proper end of pedos and quite frankly all rapists.
