Yes, that was a weird headline to type. Not as weird as some of them have been, certainly, but it does pique one’s curiosity, “Why” is some young person dressed up like a Nazi Gestapo officer? Shooting a student film perhaps? Doubtful. And why would he be punching women? That’s the easy part. We can answer that in a New York minute. Misogyny reigns on the far-right as much, if not more so, than fascism. The reason for that is varied, but many men say that there is a generation of young men now who simply feel defeated before they even begin. My answer to that has always been: each generation faces its own challenges, whether it’s WWII, Vietnam, COVID, Trump, you name it. The human experiment is always just that, an experiment.

You see who the alpha is in this exchange and it’s the gal, the female who is not only not afraid of this goon, she’s repulsed by him. And as for the goon himself, he typifies every Nazi that has ever or will ever live: the *power* is in the uniform. You take this puny punk out of his uniform and he’s nothing. He’ll be the first one to tell you that, too. That’s the whole fascist mindset in a nutshell, “Hook up with the strongman. En masse Der Fuhrer will protect you.”

We saw how it ended in the bunker for Hitler and his closest allies. And now, ironically, Trump is building his gargantuan ballroom, which social media wags are saying will be his bunker to hide in.

Is that a real thing? Who knows? We live in an age where anything goes. Or, to quote a great line from the play Pippin, “There’s just one thing to be sure of mate, there’s nothing to be sure of…..”

That is indeed the size of it as we enter the holiday season of 2025. Something is definitely wrong with a guy of any age that would seek to identify with the most horrific and vicious political movement in the history of our world. But there he is grinning away, Mr. Uber Cool. And he’s all too ready to do the Nazi salute to Hair Fuhrer and you and I both know that.

  1. Remember when EvVERYONE knew the Nazis were the baddies?

What happened that’s made some people think they’re heroes?

Time to watch ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ again.

    • Also Judgment at Nuremberg. Even Indiana Jones. The resources exist.

Sometime this year John Pavlovitz wrote an article on young American men which concluded with the sentence “Parents, if you don’t want your sons to be lonely, stop bringing them up to be misogynistic assholes.” It was at his Substack called “The Beautiful Mess.” I thought it hit the nail on the head.

    • If I’m not mistaken (I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong) it was Sinclair Lewis who said: When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
