Her latest press conference just about blew everyone’s heads off, and not by her, but by what she said for Trump. She included an announcement (of sorts) that is going to piss off everyone in America. Hopefully, it will spread far and wide. If Trump thought we were rebellious before, wait until this news reaches every state. I’m already furious. From Raw Story:
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sparked a frenzy on Sunday after making a startling admission as to President Donald Trump’s plans for the ongoing U.S.-Israel military siege on Iran. “Mothers out there are worried that we’re going to have a draft, that they’re going to see their sons and daughters get involved in this,” said Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, speaking with Leavitt Sunday. “What do you want to say about the president’s plans for troops on the ground? As we know, it’s been largely an air campaign up until now.” In a stunning admission, Leavitt told Bartiromo that mandatory conscription – not seen since the Vietnam War – had not been ruled out by her boss.
WHAM. There is a better-than-average chance the draft could start up again. Trump has that on the board. We may very well end up with martial law if he tries to do that. There are people who want to be in the military, and there are people who do not. *Forcing* people in is going to cause a heap o’ trouble. My household is too old for it, which makes me incredibly happy. The draft. What the actual eff.
“It has been, and it will continue to be, and President Trump wisely does not remove options from the table,” Leavitt said. “I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly, but the president, as commander in chief, wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation. It’s not part of the current plan right now, but the president, again, wisely keeps his options on the table.” Leavitt’s remarks sent immediate shockwaves among critics, many of whom took her comments as a sign that conscription was imminent.
That‘s sure as h*ll the way I would take it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Welcome to America – join the draft or go to jail. How many people will literally move to another country because this isn’t something they believe in? How many people will just vanish? And how many people will actually do the work after being forced in? Sure, you’re going to have to learn enough to at least try and keep yourself alive, but you’ll be angry all the time because this is bullsh!t. Will he even bother to ask for volunteers? (As if anyone would want to…)
“Karoline Leavitt refuses to rule out INITIATING A DRAFT to send Americans to fight in Iran!” wrote the progressive political activism organization Call to Activism Sunday in a social media post on X to their more than 1.2 million followers. “Translation: they won’t even promise your kids aren’t next.” Mats Nilsson, a geopolitical commentator and author, suggested that a draft would tank the Republican Party’s future political prospects even further, with the GOP already on track for a difficult uphill battle in the upcoming midterm elections.
“Karoline Leavitt refusing to rule out a Draft,” Nilsson wrote Sunday in a social media post on X. “Once the Congressman’s and Ivy League parents’ children get drafted, it’ll be a whole other ballgame.” And X user “AnatolijUkraine,” a purported Ukrainian-born political commentator, bluntly called Leavitt’s admission “unbelievable.” “They may not be saying the word ‘draft’ out loud, but when they refuse to rule out sending Americans into Iran and keep insisting every option stays on the table, the message is clear enough: your kids are part of the gamble now,” they wrote Sunday in a social media post on X.
Geee, ya THINK??!!!! At a guess, her saying the quiet part out loud means they are seriously considering it! They’re going to start the process of conscription. I hope I’m wrong, but that seems to be on the horizon. Boots on the ground are, too. Why are we in another war that’s never going to end? Dadgum, aren’t we better than this?
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

What’s so great about “leaving all options on the table”? Isn’t that how the Third Reich reached their Final Solution? Sorry about the Hitler comparison, which has certainly been overused lately, but it definitely applies here. Some options SHOULD be off the table, including the option of launching a preemptive war of aggression. Once you’ve crossed that threshold every cockeyed possibility starts to look attractive, including conscription…
Yup, that was about my reaction. But considering what you and others have told me, they went in too fast and now they’re groping at straws trying to CYA. I see nothing wrong with the Hitler/Nazi comparison because the more days that go by, the closer the resemblance gets. I do *NOT* like it.
At the time of Iraq 1, the US had about 750,000 combat-ready troops and a solid coalition with other countries. At the time of Iraq 2 it was less than half that number and only a few countries joined the coalition. They made up the shortfall with reservists and contractors like Blackwater. Now the number is down to around 75,000 and the US and Israel are utterly alone in this war.
The only way they could launch a full-scale ground invasion would be to call up all the reserves and reinstate conscription. Not only would it be Vietnam all over again and political suicide, it would take a couple of years to train new conscripts. trump will be lucky if he gets to the mid-terms. So, it’s not on the table and never will be.
That doesn’t mean he’s not stupid enough to try it.
Which he may very well do, and then it becomes a MAJOR problem.
That makes me feel a bit better. I didn’t know how fast new people could be trained.
Trump sez effectively, “it will be over when I say it is over”. No matter what he has said about unconditional surrender and whatever, the reality is he will end it on some pretext when it gets too hot at home with gas prices, falling markets etc. I’d accept that as it should be PDQ. BUT it’s not his war to end. That decision will be made by Netanyahu (proper spelling “yahoo”). In which case, a forever war which makes the draft a good bet.
As an aside, how does Trump square Putin aiding Iran the enemy with Putin, my friend, attacking Ukraine? Maybe, Zelensky should offer to help the US in return for….
It’s not even be two weeks and I wish it would end since we can’t not-start it. We’re bleeding money.
Also, yes, oops, delayed reaction to Zelenskyy helping *us* 😉 😉 😉
