It’s a sad thing to live in a country where the First Amendment reigned supreme for most of our living memory but now lies in tatters. A lot of people are alive who well remember Watergate. That was a story that was not picked up by a lot of the mainstream press at the time. It seemed too vague or too fantastic. But the Washington Post ran with it and ended up toppling one of the most corrupt presidencies in this nation’s history in doing so. Where are the Woodwards and Bernsteins of today? The Ben Bradlees? I’ll tell you where. One of the current reporters who is of that ilk is Terry Moran who got fired from ABC News a few weeks ago for a social media post critical of Trump and Stephen Miller. Not even a story, just a tweet. Another one of that ilk is Jim Acosta, who resigned from CNN and now does podcasts out of his house, when CNN wanted to put him on the graveyard shift to appease Trump.
This is how fascist cultures work. They get rid of the journalists and the fiction writers of the day who tell the truth. Look at the history of Russia for a tutorial on how that works. And look this weekend to Trump’s Iowa rally and how he utterly botched up both the history and the current job of his own Secretary of the Interior. And this is a couple of days after he misstated that the “Civil War ended in 1869 — whatever.” Yet Biden got excoriated for gaffes one fraction as odd as this. Donald Trump, according to Republicans, appeared not to know what was in the legislation that he was urging them to pass, which contained his entire agenda. All presidents have verbal slip-ups while living years of their life under the bright lights of the world’s biggest stage, but something different is going on with Trump.
As he ages, there are more and more public signs that things are not right.
The latest came while he was speaking in Iowa and the president said, “ Under the leadership of Secretary Burgum, who’s here right now. He was a great governor of North Carolina. Great governor of North Dakota. Where is he? Where is he? Mr. Secretary and he’s in charge of energy plus a lot of land. He’s the biggest landlord, I guess, in the world.”
Trump caught the first mistake. Burgum was the governor of North Dakota, not North Carolina, but Trump seems to think that his Interior Secretary is the Energy Secretary.
The Department of the Interior does not oversee energy. The Interior Secretary is not a landlord. They don’t rent out land for use. The job of the Interior Department is to protect and manage the nation’s natural resources.
Donald Trump thinks his Interior Secretary is the Energy Secretary and the president seems to have no idea what the Department of the Interior does.
The mainstream media has spent years chasing the belief that Joe Biden was in decline. Meanwhile, this is how Donald Trump behaves in public in front of their eyes as they choose not to pursue or cover the story.
The media doesn’t cover Trump the same as it covered Biden because Biden was not suing outlets right and left. Trump is. Back in the Watergate era Dan Rather was the thorn in Richard Nixon’s side. CBS of that era wasn’t committed to money above journalism, like it is now. The Washington Post of that era wasn’t owned by a billionaire whose chief aim, it appears, is to become Elon Musk II in the Trump administration.
Mainstream media is hamstrung. Thank God we have independent media telling the truth or we would truly be in a world of hurt. On that note, we can always use a donation here at PolitiZoom. All news and opinion outlets took a hit last November, with the exception of the right-wing silo. They’re all happy as proverbial pigs in shit. And they are pigs in shit, in fact. It is this dual narrative of reality, made possible by Ronald Reagan doing away with the Fariness In Broadcasting doctrine, which paved the way for the propaganda drenched hell in which we live.

It’s not just this bill, it’s his EAs. Aides have had to read them to him so he has some grasp of what’s in them. He’s never been a reader, but now in deep decline he may actually be functionally illiterate. Which raises the question: who is writing this legislation? Is there a shadow government running the show?
Shadow government? Enter Stephen Miller.
He sounds like Jim Jones did near the end. When do they pass out the Jesus juice and start shooting democrats like ol jimbo did in Guyana?
“The media doesn’t cover Trump the same as it covered Biden because Biden was not suing outlets right and left.”
Or more accurately, they’re on his side all along, because the media owners are oligarch supporters of him.
You are right that the Department of Energy is not the Department of the Interior. However, Interior has a division called the Bureau of Land Management which leases out lands for grazing and for mineral exploration, including coal and gas.
