Everything makes the news today. Except not all of it does, since this seems to be brand new. There’s someone working quietly off radar, looking at possibilities of blocking Trump lawsuits and winning them instead. It’s been going on for a while. I seriously cannot remember ever reading anything about these folks. Let’s say hello. From Raw Story:

Behind the scenes, one of President Donald Trump’s top nemeses is scoring major victories and leaving the president on the defensive. The Atlantic reported Monday the details of a highly organized, remarkably effective “legal resistance” to Trump’s ongoing efforts in his second term. Former ethics czar, impeachment prosecutor, and frequent thorn in Trump’s side, Norm Eisen, “has pursued more than 100 legal matters” against Trump, according to the report. With strong leadership counterbalancing a divided Democratic Party, Eisen has mobilized a coalition of lawyers, advocacy groups, unions, and state attorneys general to mount fast and aggressive legal challenges that have knocked down many Trump initiatives.

There ya go. You don’t have to have publicity for everything. The longer you stay off the grid, the better. No one needs to notice. They just keep bringing the appropriate lawsuits and winning. The more they win, the more they block Trump. Now, this could stick in Trump’s throat, except I’d be willing to bet he forgot about it in a few days. They don’t feel a need to address the press every time they win a case. They just have to keep doing it.

Eisen’s campaign operates on multiple fronts, coordinating legal strategy calls with a diverse group—including former Obama administration attorneys, Democratic communications strategists, and neoconservative critics. While Eisen’s group has taken on over 100 lawsuits, the broader resistance is making lawsuits great again, with an initiative bringing 384 complaints. So far, 130 of those suits have successfully blocked Trump’s efforts, with dozens more still pending. Eisen believes the legal battles are just beginning.

That sounds about right. There are a lot of things Trump is doing because he feels he has the power. Well, every court case won, big or small, takes out a piece of that power. The man has done enough illegal things to keep this group busy for years. Yes, I’m serious, years. Let’s have an example – sending the military into LA to shut down riots. Except there weren’t any. The folks in LA knew *exactly* what Trump was trying to do, so it failed. And that’s just one example. Consider how much crap Trump has done (all those random firings, to start) and you’ll understand why Norm and his group is sorely needed.

Trump continues to generate more lawsuits. “Aggressive tactics by ICE have spawned new cases, as has the deployment of federal officers and National Guardsmen to crack down on crime in D.C,” the report said. Eisen is also preparing a lawsuit against Trump to challenge the financial benefits he and his family have received since taking office. The report concludes, “The battle, in short, is just beginning.”

Indeed, it is. Now, I’m not even close to being a lawyer (I’ll Google law terms when I’m doing something like reading the Mueller report or the Jack Smith documents on Trump and the insurrection. Did you know Jack had enough information to get a conviction?), so there’s not much I can do to help beyond moral support. But anything is better than nothing, dontcha think?

Zoomers, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. Legendary basketball coach (coach, but more importantly teacher and mentor as anyone who played for him would point out) John Wooden liked to say “It’s amazing how much gets accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit.” That’s what leapt to my mind reading this. Smart, talented and dedicated people working together for a common goal. A goal far more important than winning a game or even championship.

We should be thankful there are still people who could be getting rich and famous who instead care more about getting things that badly need doing get done.
