I must say, this takes a pair, especially in the MAGA-ruled Republican party. I take my hat off to this guy. I also am making note on my calendar of how long it takes for either Elon Musk or Donald Trump or maybe even J.D. Vance decide to chastise the guy and threaten him with a primary. He knows the drill. They all know the drill and they’re terrified. But Don Bacon evidently knows something we don’t and he’s defying Trump and Musk.

Is it approval numbers? I can’t see where that matters. Trump is in the second month of his second term. The numbers are going to get a lot lot worse, especially if he persists with causing the stock market to tank because a lot of people are going to be very upset when their 401Ks begin to tank. Trump can talk all the blather he wants about the Chinese and their “100-year plan” but Americans want to know that they can have a few bucks socked away for retirement.
Maybe Doug Ford of Canada is right. Ford said that Republicans are railing against what Trump is doing. Maybe he’s more tuned into this than we know.

It would suit MAGAs right if they ended up sitting in the dark. In fact, that might be the only thing that would wake them up.
Nothing is real to Trump. Life is a TV show, politics is a series of grifting and photo ops. That’s what he knows. He doesn’t care that he’s doing damage to his country which will long outlast his term — and that may be because he intends to be in office until he dies and then who cares, right?
I think it’s a great sign that any Republican will stand up to Musk and Trump. And I also think that the heat is being turned up on Trump to do something about Musk. And when that encounter gets serious, look for things to get ugly. And fast.
