Alright, look, a day ago I would have had no hope of identifying Latin music superstar Nicky Jam. But then again, my writing wasn’t just endorsed by the man and he was not beside me as I wrote yesterday, which is inexplicably my work in life. Nicky was at a Donald Trump campaign event and it appears as though Trump knew it because he called upon Nicky to join him on stage. So… what’s the problem? Trump called Nicky “hot” with the presumption that he was a she.
So he misgendered Nicky, and that will happen in the complex campaign, right? Actually no because Nicky Jam has beard stubble and was there to join Trump on stage! You would think this would get worked out before the rally, alas, no. Trump humiliated himself according to Variety:
At Trump’s campaign rally Friday in Las Vegas, the GOP presidential candidate announced the endorsement of “Latin music superstar Nicky Jam”: “Do you know Nicky? She’s hot!”
Okay, that is sort of not ideal. There are two issues to trash Trump over. Of course, there is the misgendered “she” when one would think they would have remembered or Trump’s campaign staff would have explained the endorsement. This brings about the possibility that Trump was, in fact, told and did not remember.
There is also the possibility that Trump is declining in his mental acuity. Nearly everyone does if one is blessed to reach his age. Perhaps the staff did tell him. Surely, though, they did not tell him that Nicky Jam was “hot.” Such an adjective would be dangerous in Trump’s hands. No, Trump assumed as much “hotness” in the Latin star as he did assuming gender. The article adds:
“Where’s Nicky? Where’s Nicky? Thank you, Nicky. Great to be having you here.” When the bestubbled Nicky Jam — wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat — emerged from the crowd onto the stage and shook Trump’s hand, Trump realized his error and said, “Oh look! Come here. I’m glad he came up.”
Yeah, okay. The thing is Trump knew that Nicky was coming up and most people would shake his hand before the event, if it’s possible. What to do if it was not possible?
That is fairly easy. He is on stage, not knowing who Nicky might be, and saying instead, ““Latin music superstar Nicky Jam. Do you know Nicky? Nicky is big time.” Admittedly, I might have made the same mistake but I am not running for president, aware that I have to be mistake free. I would drill my staff about who he was, and not add – even if Nicky was a woman – which he’s not – that “she’s hot” under any circumstance. That’s not good.
I’m still laughing at this.

So the entire matter blew up in the campaign’s face. Not only did Trump embarrass himself, looking like his campaign can’t tie its own shoes but he looks as confused as ever. That is an inherent issue in this campaign, we’ve seen it play out already and Trump has been confused enough to make it relevant again.

Could it be possible that since he’s still stuck back in the 70’s that he got confused and could only think of Stevie Nicks when he was told about Nicky Jam?

He pointed to Stevie on the Rumors album cover once and said how beautiful she was and how Lindsey was the perfect name for her.
For gender-neutral names (especially foreign ones) I tend to use the pronoun “they/them” until I’m sure.
Can you imagine what the MSM would have done to President Biden had he committed the same mistake? Double standards stink like a giant pile of fish heads in the blazing sun.
Looks as if D—ump got himself into a bit of a pickle, when he wrong name flavoured, errr favoured, his ‘Jam’. He’s a tasteless dolt, isn’t he.
It’s evidence of raging misogyny. The best thing he could think of to say about a “woman” he’s never met but knows to be a celebrity: she must be hot. What a disgusting pig.
