Easter Eve is taken up with an obsession on social media about Donald Trump’s health. The Rapid Response Team has come out and made a statement. But the statement is far more of an attack than an actual concise statement addressing the rumors of armed cars at Walter Reed. Make of that what you will.

They’re not addressing the issue directly. They’re scooting around it. This is one of the reasons why this got so big on Twitter is because the White House won’t come out with a simple, direct statement like, “He’s not at Walter Reed. He’s having dinner with his grandchildren,” or whatever the case may be. One or two sentences would take all the air out of this balloon.

It’s this backing off from the subject that is making everything go tilt on social media. The way this rumor got started was that:

  1. Trump put a lid on press briefings, unusual because there is still a crew member missing from the downed F-15E;
  2. Around the same time streets closed around Walter Reed;
  3. Apparently the two things were put together;
  4. The White House has made two statements, neither one of them addressing Walter Reed or Trump’s health.

My prediction is that unless and until this issue is dealt with directly, it’s going to continue to inflame curiosity.

  1. Since The White House lies as a matter of course, if they say he’s not at Walter Reed, he almost certainly is at Walter Reed.
