What’s going on in Trump World? More specifically what are the discussions in Trump World about who will take over Marco Rubio’s Senate seat when he’s confirmed as Trump’s SecState. Lara was mentioned as a possible Rubio replacement a while back but seemed to drop off the radar. DeSantis is Gov. and gets to name the replacement who will hold the seat until the next general election in 2026. That puts HIM in an “interesting” position to be sure. Speculation has covered all manner of possibilities from DeSantis naming himself (questionable whether he can do so), picking a “placeholder” like Newsome did in California so a truly open election can be held when the time comes (and running for the seat himself) or just naming someone who will be a true incumbent with all the advantages of it come 2026. But Lara Trump seemed to have faded somewhat as a possibility until yesterday.
Now to be sure her name has in fact come up recently. A concept was floated of a ‘deal’ between Trump and DeSantis – Lara for Senate and DeSantis replacing Pete Hegseth who’s nomination for SecDef is in trouble. However by the end of last week it appeared Trump has decided to double-down on Hegseth. It remains to be seen whether that will work out but it sure seems to be the plan. At least for now. That bumps DeSantis and his still there goal of one day becoming President back some. He will be stuck being Gov. of Florida as things now stand. And clearly an ‘arm’s length’ ally at best of Trump’s which means he’s got no real incentive to name Lara Trump to Rubio’s seat.
Well, it seems Lara has decided to mount a public pressure campaign to be the new Senator from Flor-i-DUH. As this article from The Hill states she is making it clear she thinks she’s got the chops for the job. According to her (during an interview on Fox News Sunday) while some might think her last name doesn’t help, she believes it’s an asset. I suppose her realizing some accusations of nepotism would be made shows a smidgeon of awareness at least. However, lack of shame is a trait when it comes to Republicans and the Trump family in particular. Self-promotion is the name of THEIR game and on that score Lara Trump fits right in in Trump World.
So just what makes her think she’s qualified to be a Senator? Thankfully she’s not citing her “career” as a musician! (I wonder what Senators think of the prospect of her asking to lead them in the National Anthem or God Bless America?) She is however citing her recent stint as Co-Chair of the RNC as “proof” of her political skills:
Lara Trump became the co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) in March, serving along with Chair Michael Whatley.
She pointed to her work in the RNC as a reason why she’s qualified for the Senate seat.
“I think probably my last name does tighten my political profile a little bit, but I’ve got a proven track record. I’ve been co-chair of the RNC during the most consequential election of our lifetime,” Lara Trump said.
Look, her job was to run around grilling folks about loyalty to Trump, and to look over the shoulders of those who handled the money to make sure every dime went to TRUMP and not to Republicans running for other offices around the country! That might make her qualified to be part of the new administration, but it takes a LOT of money to run for Senate (even for many incumbents) and Lara Trump pushing them to mingle their fundraising operations with Trump’s won’t endear her to other GOP Senators. Also, the Senate prides itself on being ‘the world’s most exclusive club’ and most are already concerned about a certain element of the ‘wrong people’ making their way into the ranks. The title picture was chosen for a reason – I’m sure most Senators including Republicans shudder at THIS appearing at one of their social gatherings.
Anyway what I find intriguing this morning is that Lara went on Fox to lobby for the job. For me at least it raises questions. For example just what went on (or went wrong) in the Trump/DeSantis discussions about him joining the administration – in exchange for appointing Lara to Rubio’s seat? And what the hell is going on during family (or what passes for it with the Trump KKKlan) discussions these days? Lara clearly wants the job and Fredo 2 (aka Eric Trump) probably wants her to just shut up and like his sister (remember wannabe Princess Ivanka?) “play government.” He probably figures her insider knowledge as a Senator would be useful to the family business.
The thing is, if Trump truly wanted this to happen, if Lara was his first choice it would have been a done deal by now. However, it’s clearly NOT a done deal. So here’s an interesting question: Was Lara sent on Fox to float a trial balloon or put pressure on DeSantis into naming her in exchange for nothing? A sort of ‘create a groundswell from MAGA’ for “Senator Trump” so strong DeSantis has no choice? Or did Lara go off the reservation and shoot off her mouth without express permission from her father-in-law?
We might never know. Then again we just might. There are lots of folks running around Mar A Lago, just regular members who interact with the political people all the time. I’d imagine they pick up all kinds of tidbits. And it seems even record and post some of them. Ursula posted this weekend about someone putting up a post of a women’s bathroom there with a guest of Trump’s who is Trans in there!
Well folks, it’s something to keep an eye on this week.
She’s getting to be a little long in the tooth for an outfit like that, but as long as I don’t have to hear her sing, I’m good.
When I think about it given how much of her is ‘plastic’ it makes sense all that foreign matter in her body to make her seem ‘young and hot’ might leak into her vocal chords.
Well looks to me like Lara is auditioning for the new position of Trump special lot lizard. She been hanging out with Don Jr.s lot lizard. One of the reasons she and Fox parted ways was she was making her secretary run around the house naked with her. Could it be the two were getting for some late night strategy meetings. Lara used to hide behind everyone in family photos. She doesn’t leave a whole lot to hide in that dress 👗. Eric better hope he’s hung like a stallion. She gets in the senate. Some nice senators might just want to show her the ropes. And the supply closets. You know thorough tour.
