The new administration is still very young, just over five weeks old. Yet the actions it has taken have served to incense people. And we mean incense, as in booing, threatening, complaining, demanding — asking a Republican senator to be accountable, in short. And in the case of Roger Marshall (R-KS-RFK supporter) things got ugly this weekend.

Now the irony here is that the townhall started out as nice as pie, as you saw. A gentleman present asked about the veteran. This is a cause of concern. Veterans have lost their jobs, some of them disabled veterans. This is unconscionable. And while another GOPer in another state opined, “They’ll get another job somewhere,” no. That’s not realistic. Federal government jobs are in a world of their own in terms of what they pay, the benefits, what they expect in a work week, all of it is different. Civil service work emphatically does not translate across the boards to the private sector. It is a lie to state otherwise. Both Vance and Marshall fleeing in one day. Damn.
These scenes aren’t happening in blue states to Democratic senators. They are happening in red states to Republican representatives and senators. The generations of propaganda that the GOP and conservative media have spread about Republicans being the party of the flag and the troops is collapsing in on them.
The Republican president is being viewed as a traitor. The Republican vice president is being forced to flee due to protests. The billionaire who appears to have bought the presidency is firing disabled veterans while the Republican majority in the House and Senate does nothing.
Unlike Democrats, elected Republicans are terrified of their own voters. If there is a pressure point that will ever force Republicans in Congress to act, it will come from events like these town halls.
So what will Marshall do?
- Complain about DOGE?
- Cancel future townhalls?
- Grow a spine and let the Republican party know his constituents are unhappy?
- Examine his own conscience?
I’d say number two is the likely winner here. And then that’s only going to escalate problems. You can’t solve a problem by running away from it. But for now, that’s the Republican way.
And wait until RFK, Jr.’s ridiculous policies begin to threaten the health of Marshall’s constituents — and he has to justify voting for this charlatan to be confirmed. Marshall is a medical doctor and he of all people knows what a total fraud Bobby Kennedy, Jr. is.
I would be worried if I were Marshall. And I daresay that he is. And remember, this is only getting started. The administration is still young. The year is still young. And if things are allowed to continue the way they are, this will soon become the new normal for Republicans.

People’s health is already affected. I read on the other site, that a Trump supporter has a 30 year old daughter with a glioblastoma. She was enrolled in an experimental study that was funded by the NIH. That funding has ended with Trump’s freeze on grant spending. This woman has been living with her cancer for 5 years. That far exceeds most people’s experience with this terrible thing. Needless to say, her MAGA father us quite upset.
Maybe he’ll vote Dem next time….
Well, the only problem with this notion of “We’re gonna vote you out” is far too many of the people who put him into office in the first place will “vote him out” but just pick a DIFFERENT GOPer in the primary and *that* GOPer will be just as likely to keep supporting Drumpf/Muskrat’s every last whim.
According to Wiki, Marshall ran for the Senate in 2020 and his main GOP primary opponent was Kris Kobach (remember him? The fervent Drumpf ally?). From an 11-man primary field, Marshall won by getting nearly 40% of the vote, then went on to beat his Democratic opponent in the general election by 53-42 (the remainder went to a Libertarian candidate).
As a member of the US House, Marshall supported Trump 98% of the time and one of his last acts as a member of the House was to join in a House GOP amicus brief supporting Texas v Pennsylvania (the lawsuit contesting the results of the 2020 election) and then, in one of his earliest OFFICIAL acts as a Senator was to support the objections to Arizona’s and Pennsylvania’s electoral votes.
But, again, this kind of crap is going to keep happening as long as voters keep electing Republicons to office. The GOP has NO interest in actually helping the voters. It keeps spewing culture war crap to distract voters from the real issues–and then they act shocked when *they* get hurt from what the GOP really supports. We saw that last year after the contents of Project 2025 got released; these GOP voters were told what would happen if Drumpf won (Drumpf, of course, lied about knowing anything about the Project) and they still chose to vote for Drumpf and other GOPers (who, in lockstep, backed Drumpf during the final months of the campaign).
At least in part, Joseph, that dumbass voting pattern owes its sad existence to 25 years of nonstop propaganda from Fux News and other rabid rightwing media, all of it demonising Democrats and downplaying/ignoring any & all Democratic accomplishments. Remember that infamous t-shirt: BETTER RUSSIAN THAN DEMOCRAT. Says it all.
The current Governor of Kansas is Democrat Laura Kelly. She’s term-limited in 2026 when Marshall is up for re-election. I hope she runs against him because I reckon she’d have a damn good chance of winning.
