First, dear readers, the good news, followed, as is typical by the bad…

Last night Stephen Colbert took aim at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his probably illegal Air DeSantis flights carrying unsuspecting asylum seekers from San Antonio to the more temperate climes of Martha’s Vineyard with a brief stop in the Florida Panhandle so DeSantis could say that the kidnapping victims had intended to travel to Florida’s anyway.

Colbert ain’t buying that:

“No one intends to go to Florida.”

Huffington Post

“Stephen Colbert tore into Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for

kidnapping” migrants and flying them to Massachusetts for a political stunt.

And that’s not all.

“It turns out it was way worse than we imagined because he actually abducted them from Texas,” Colbert said. “For a guy who acts so concerned about borders he doesn’t seem to know where his state ends.”

Colbert noted that there were just two reasons why people travel to the Sunshine State.

“You’re about to die and want to eat pudding next to an alligator,” he said. “Or you want to do that Disney thing where you can build your own lightsaber.”

Now that is pretty frigging funny, and I hope you had a laugh.

I did.

What is not so funny is this:

I don’t know what can be done about this in the short term beyond welcoming the folks affected and helping them to find their feet.

Some other suggestions:

This might be a good start.

Yup

I’m for that… and confiscation.

Exactly.

Someone must be held accountable for these crimes, start with the small fry and the angle for the big fish.

If Texas doesn’t want to be a border state they should cede the Rio Grande to New Mexico and let the democrats there come up with a solution.

I can guarantee it won’t involve kidnapping.

  1. A) How is this stunt of his not human trafficking and B) how is this not an illegal use of taxpayer money? I should hope there are at least a few folks in FL with some functioning brain cells have seen this as an egregious use of taxpayer money and sue his ass/office/state for being a dumb-ass.

Now, on the flip side: those folks who were made into political props for an idiot did get out of FL and TX which is a very good thing and did get into a state with welcoming, helpful people. They could not have asked for a better outcome. I’m sure they just wish states such as FL, TX, etc. treated humans in a lawful manner instead of acting like total dicks unworthy themselves of being called intelligent beings.

While I think this might be a dangerous idea, ocean travel isn’t great for migrants/asylum seekers, they might want to re-think their routes to the U.S.: seems like a sea journey might be the way to go. Of course I think death is better than living in places like FL, TX, etc.

  2. I’m all for formal human trafficking and/or kidnapping investigations including arresting those who do the actual transporting and filing charges. I agree with the suggestion they will sing like canaries as to who hired them or ordered them (if any are govt. employees) to act. However, one thing that jumped out at me was the part about Lackland Air Force Base being used in at least one of these stunts! WTF? If I was SecDef I’d have the Commanding General in my office at the Pentagon this very second (a little after 8am EDT) “heels locked” (meaning at attention – getting a combination ass chewing and a series of just what the fuck are you authorizing or winking and nodding to others to authorize?”) because Lacklan is federal property, controlled by the DoD. I’d have any member of the Joint Chiefs in there too along with the Secretary of the Air Force. I’d want to know what if any Article 32 investigations are under way of any Officer or enlisted person who signed and/or carried out functions to facilitate such a flight including allowing those buses onto the base in the first place have been initiated and if not why the fuck not? Yes, a lot of lower ranking enlisted folks will get caught up in all this but most will be cleared and their records will remain clean. But those who signed orders/authorizations and/or gave direct orders to lower ranking enlisted folks to service the plane, admit the buses onto the base, watch over the kidnapees and escort them onto the plane should be charged, convicted and get the ole “Big Chicken Dinner.” (That’s service speak for BCD or Bad Conduct Discharge – which in addition to the felony conviction on their record means forfeiture of ALL military benefits) Finally, the President can instruct the SecDef and the Joint Chiefs to right now, today make damned sure federal property as in military bases don’t have any such involvement in this shit again. Time for what we used to call a “Frost Call”, in this case from Austin and Milley. If it hasn’t been done then that order that “covers everyone and everything” needs to go out right now.

    • port San Antonio is a public private partnership. there are many private companies that use the facility independent of the military. they have their own ground crews etc. companies like fed ex and Amazon. I am pretty sure no one from the military was involved.

      • My mistake. i could swear I saw Lackland Air Force Base cited as a spot that flight was routed through. Maybe this is a dumb question but since Lackland is up kind of close to San Antonio how would it be part of the port?

  3. “probably illegal” Very good Dino.
“carrying unsuspecting asylum seekers”. No Dino no, bad Dino. Don’t be like Ursula.
“Someone must be held accountable for these crimes, start with the small fry and the angle for the big fish”. Really Dino? The little guy first? Hypocrite! Here’s what they did to these 50 poor immigrants that were OFFERED AND ACCEPTED a better opportunity there.
When 50 illegal aliens were flown onto the elite coastal island, home to the nation’s wealthiest and most well-connected, officials declared a “humanitarian crisis” and Gov. Charlie Baker (R) swiftly deported the new arrivals to a military base on Cape Cod.
They have 80,000 rentals and dozens of restaurants.
Oh, and 600 people are moving to Florida a day. 600 new residents a day. Wow.

Wow, I’ve been censored you communists. I can’t post my sources. You people are being censored. Congratulations. This is why I research.

(MODERATOR’S NOTE: Your concern/complaint regarding moderation has been made by others in the past who regularly comment on this site. To you, as I have to them I directly apologize. People I should add who unlike you are progressive in their views and strong supporters of policies with which you disagree. As is typical for most blogs this site does not condone direct threats of violence, or disinformation that can be dangerous. Sometimes warnings are given to tone it down, in rare cases banning happens immediately. But as you can see while most here disagree with you and say so your comments wind up being posted. Why certain commenters get routed into moderation despite not breaking site rules or guidelines is a mystery. If I knew computer coding and how to go in and talk “ones and zeros” to tell the software “Hey – don’t route this person’s comments into moderation” there have been many instances in which I’d have done so. Yes, even you. And some others with conservative views who have shown up here at times. People have a right to say their piece, with as I noted little restriction. Sadly, I don’t know coding and so the only thing I can do is check regularly to “clear” comments. I try, I really do not to let more than a couple of hours go by without checking the site except for when I try to sleep – I live in the eastern time zone btw – and sometimes every hour. Unfortunately life and other things intervene and the time frame might be longer. If right after I leave this site to tend to other things someone, say you happens to submit a comment or two and a couple of hours go by I can understand your frustration. Should for some reason I be away from the site for even longer I can even understand you or anyone else being pissed. I get it. I do try to keep up in a fairly timely manner with clearing comments. Sometimes I don’t manage to do so as quickly as you and others want. Again, for that I’m truly sorry but I assure you it has nothing to do with your political views. I might add the owner of the site firmly agree that critics should have their comments posted. People have a broad right to agree or disagree with articles and comments posted here. I will make one final point. Sometimes (not often but it has happened) I have edited out some outright slander, dangerous information or links from a comment. In the case of links, when I’m unsure or a link is unfamiliar I will check it out before hitting approve on it and the comment. It has led to some less than fun experiences unfucking my computer. If there is doubt in my mind I tend to chosoe the cautious route. You may or may not agree with that approach. But it’s how I roll, and since taking on the task of moderation we’ve had fewer instances of site disruption. As they say in statistics “correlation does not equal causation” but it doesn’t prove a lack either. Disruptions/glitches have still happened but not as often. So I’ll conclude this extra lengthy explanation to you with again apologizing to you for your last couple of comments being held up longer than you’d like. Hell, for them having gotten routed to moderation in the first place even though that’s a software thing that’s as mysterious as quantum physics. And an assurance it’s not personal.

    • “unlike you” Don’t think you assume you know me. P.S. Someone down voted you. Very rare I vote. And yes, this was way too long. You got your problems I got mine.

      • You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that it’s a ‘crime’ to seek asylum to escape persecution or to migrate because there is a danger to your life. It’s actually covered by international law, to which the US is a signatory.

Now deporting asylum seekers without their case being heard and adjudicated IS a crime.

Anyone seeking asylum must, under lkaw, be accomodated (whether on bail, with relatives or in a secure facility pending hearing of their claim. IF (and ONLY ‘if’) that fails can they be deported. There is nothing in any law that even remotely resembles ‘toss them back to Mexico while we think about it’

However, you seem to consider anyone who disagrees with you as being a ‘communist’. At this point. I’d suggest you read Marx and also the Gospels and you might just find a surprise in that REAL communism, as defined by Marx, has absolutely nothing in common with the Russian variant but has a lot more in common with the teaching in the Gospels).

Rule by a dictator who tries every means (legal and illegal) to remain in power? That’s Soviet and Fascist and neither ‘communist’ nor ‘Christian’

    • Just ignore her, apart from the downvoting, she’ll soon give up. The reichwing are all snowflakes, besides redxxxx is so off the wall she’s funny.

She reminds our side that we deal with facts and reality, and her side deals with lies and fantasy, for their own onanistic purposes
