Is this going on in any other country, elected officials screaming in the streets, and on the steps of government buildings? Or is it just in America that looks like a Fellini movie and just with a certain contingent of the two chambers of Congress? Yes, some of this is done for shock value. Most of it, in fact. But beyond the shock value which Marjorie Taylor Greene and cohorts seem to believe cements them with their constituents, there is a corrosive quality. I’ve said before, a pickle can never go back to being a cucumber and I fear that the era of Trump has dragged our civil discourse down to a level from which we will never recover.
I don’t know if this was going on in Rome in its last days but if anybody needs an example of what an empire in decay looks like, this will do until a better image comes along.

Rome was sacked by the goths and the vandals, vulgar destructive people. Here, we elect vulgar destructive people to Congress and pay them tidy six figure incomes to drag our image through the mud.
Forget about American exceptionalism. If I knew nothing at all about America and just got here and saw this clip, I would conclude that Americans were a rude, crude people.
And by that definition, Greene does represent a certain faction of this culture. Matt Gaetz thought it was cute to order pizza delivered to the House of Representatives when a meeting was being convened to discuss impeachment. That was before his debacle with the gas mask. It’s all one big frat/sorority party to these people. I hope that the districts that voted these people in are pleased with this side show because the rest of the civilized world is appalled.
I have no words. Wait . . . . appalling, despicable, juvenile, hateful, arrogant, hypocritical, indecent, ignorant, base, foul, ridiculous. It just took a minute to get past the offensiveness of that bottle blond whore.
You know, I never would have imagined anything worse than the monolithic ‘Unionist’ control in Stormont – one party rule for over 50 years summed up by one of its leaders as ‘a Protestant parliament for a Protestant people’, with a ‘Special Powers’ Act that, basically, allowed the Minister of Home Affairs to do whatever he wanted (or, in his absence, whoever he appointed to do whatever on his behalf). This ran from mail interception (I had a letter offering me a job ‘returned to sender – not known at this address;), phone tapping on a prolonged basis (a friend of mine who worked at the main exchange told me that, once a week, a squad of cops arrived, went to the switches and installed taps on random phones. He estimated that, at any one tome, 10% of all the phones in Norn Iron were tapped.
‘Accidental’ shootings occured – one case was a syspected Republican, being left alone in a room with a loaded revolver in an unlocked drawer which he ‘found’ and shot himself with. Gerrym,andering to make sure that the Uninnist party would never be challenged, job discrimination in the work place was rampant.
Everything done by that administration was swept under the counter when they were eventually removed – and everything was whitewashed and sanitised and ‘it never happened’
Watching events unfold over in the US reminds me of all those days – with the Republiqanons hiding evidence of corrupition and misgovernment and the hiding of blatant acts against the people (‘a white congress for a white people’ maybe?)
I really hope you lot can nail that and nail it down HARD.
