Word has come from the office of the anti-King Solomon, Kevin McCarthy, that Lauren Boebart and Ilhan Omar will be meeting this coming week and it should be quite a get together. Not only can Boebart apologize in person for her false account of the elevator encounter, and the wisecrack about Omar’s backpack or lack thereof, but this little jewel has been unearthed from last week. Do you suppose McCarthy knows about this?
While on OANN this week, Lauren Boebert said Ilhan Omar is a “terrorist” and commented, “at least my family tree forks,” while pushing false conspiracy theories against Ilhan Omar’s past marital status.

The “family tree” comment we assume is making reference to the conspiracy theory that Ilhan Omar married her brother. This is straight out of the Trump playbook. Trump had a campaign rally in Ocala, Florida, in October 2020, where he ranted that Omar ‘hates America” and “married her own brother.” So of course Boebert is going to repeat anything that Trump has said from the podium, because that is MAGA dogma. That’s the alternate reality that MAGA lives by and what they want to hear preached. And Boebert is nothing if not a Trump purse poodle and undying sycophant. She wants to be High Priestess in the Cult of Trump more than anything.
This of course is exactly where Kevin McCarthy stands. He wants more than anything to be High Priest of the Cult. So the dilemma which McCarthy finds himself skewered on the horns of, is how oh how does he stay true to MAGA dogma and Tangerine Palpatine, and solve these personnel crises in the House?
And the answer is, he has no clue. McCarthy can’t do the moral thing and tell Boebert she’s wrong and denounce her publicly, that would be heresy. He also can’t publicly align himself with her, what an explosive can of worms that would open. So he does the best he can do, which is arrange a sit-down between the two warring congresswomen, like he was the consigliere of one mafia family and Steny Hoyer the consigliere of another, and nobody wants to go to the mattresses. Yet.
This is insane. And it’s going to get more insane before this next week is out. I base that prediction on what has already taken place, on this new OAN clip and then there’s also this jewel.

He’s correct in stating that the racist attack on Omar is how a lot of Americans feel. The question then becomes, should we stay racist, because a certain percentage of America holds racist views, or should we try to rise above that and see each other as individuals? As Martin Luther King put it, “judge one another by the content of our characters and not the color of our skin?” Which? Because we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we are in this country already if people didn’t decide to put human dignity above fear mongering about The Other.
Or, maybe those days are gone. Maybe what we do now is elect people who appeal to the worst devils of our nature, rather than to our better angels. The election of Lauren Boebert is certainly an example of taking the low road. Will Coloradans choose to go down that path again?
My gods, what a clueless bitch. Her office actually tweeted out an apology a couple of days back (couldn’t have come from her; it made too much grammatical sense as a statement) but this bit doesn’t help. Islamophobia has been out of mainstream fashion for at least 10 years now and with her redrawn district, Boebert isn’t going to have as easy a time as last. McCarthy is more likely to be Speaker at this point.
Boebert should have to research her own family tree, back to at least 1800, as a punishment.

Until the early 1980s, the “Christian right” (led by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson) were adamant anti-Semites and, even today, their ONLY interest in “protecting Jews from anti-Semites” is because of the bullshit fundamentalist Christian belief that Jesus’s “Second Coming” could only happen after Israel was “restored” as a nation. That philosophy is still behind the “Christian right’s” continued support of Israel, even as they have absolutely NO use for Jews in America (and a lot of right-wing Jews like the late Sheldon Adelson remain happy for the support even if it means being treated like unwanted stepchildren–they do continue contributing to these anti-Semite “Christian” politicians as long as they keep supporting Israel). Incidentally, the original philosophy was that Jesus would return within one generation (roughly 30-35 years) after Israel was “restored.” BUT, that exact timeline was very fluid. Jesus should’ve returned around 1980 based on Israel’s becoming independent in 1948 OR around 2000 based on Israel’s conquering Arab East Jerusalem in 1967 or some as yet undetermined date (some of the predictions have even suggested that Jesus will only return when Israel’s borders are returned to where they were under the reign of King David back around 1000 BCE–territory which would include not just modern Israel and the illegally-occupied West Bank but also southern Lebanon, western Jordan and extending into the Egyptian Sinai).
But there is as much anti-Semitism among the GOP as there is any actual evidence of it among any Democratic members of Congress.
OH, and a lack of support for Israel’s existence has ZERO connection with acceptance of Jews as a religion or a people. (It’s worth noting that the original Zionist movement was adamantly opposed by deeply devout Jews, especially among the Orthodox community. That changed ONLY after the Holocaust and there are a hell of a lot of right-wing Christians and conservatives in general continue officially deny ever happened–or they give vocal support to Holocaust deniers.)
