Was Today The GOP’s 2022 “Comey Moment”?

I’m fond of Quoting Rachel Maddow at the end of an article by telling you to stick a pin in this one. Not this time. This time, you need to stick a flaming sword through this one.

Rachel may be treading the path to another mEmy for her groundbreaking reporting of what appeared to her to be a multi state conspiracy for multiple GOP state party organs to submit fraudulent slates of Trump Electors to the United States Senate, as well as the National Archives for states that Biden won. This is the kind of stupid that you can’t teach, it has to be a gift from God.

Since then, fueled by Rachel’s reporting, the hits have just kept coming. She broke that it appeared that all 5 states, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia used the same template, with identical fonts and spacing.

Cue reel 2. We now have actual video of the miscreants, in the middle of committing their election fraud. State Capitol’s are traditionally closed on certification day. And so, the Nevada fraudmeisters were filmed at folding tables on the Capitol grounds, signing their signatures of fraudulent documents. In Michigan, you had the truly embarrassing video of Trump electors standing at the staff door of the Capitol, arguing with Michigan State Police officers, who refused them entry to the building and closed the door in their faces.

In Wisconsin, they actually got into the building to create their fraud. How? A Democratic state Senator asked that question, and got the answer. Departing GOP Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, who was elected to the US House, used his clout to secure the Senate Parlor room, aling with an adjacent conference room, for the criminals to conduct their fraud in comfort. Think maybe Speaker Pelosi might want an explanation on the record for that?

But now the wheels have come off of the GOP bus. CNN today obtained a rare interview with Assistant Attorney General Lisa Monaco, in which she confirmed to CNN that the DOJ is actively investigating the fraudulent elector submissions, and that they would have no further comment on an active investigation.

This is bad news for the GOP. Actually, terrible news. For one simple reason. The GOP, especially when commanded by Trump, are too bone fucking stupid to do complicated. This isn’t like Enron, or Bernie Madoff, stretching back decades. This is one very specific conspiracy, with a tight, finite timeline.

Trump lost in November. By early December, the plot was already well afoot to provide alternate slates of Trump electors to fuck up the count in battleground states that Trump lost. Trump mental midgets like Boris Epshteyn and Peter Navarro have already taken to MSNBC and CNN to admit their complicity, while laying the blame off on Giuliani. This isn’t going to take years to investigate.

This is why I referred to the Comey Moment in my title. Former FBI Director glew a hole in Hillary’s campaign by announcing the investigation into her emails. And then he put another hole in her bow when, while absolving her of any wrongdoing, he nonetheless called a press conference to lambaste her for being a dumbass when it came to her personal email security.

What goes around, comes around. Today the DOJ announced that it was actively investigating the fraudulent elector submissions. This is not a far flung investigation. It’s five sites in five states, most with video footage, showing GOP state legislators fraudulently submitting themselves as legitimate state electors for Trump.

Next will come the grand jury. Or, since there were 5 states involved, possibly 5 grand juries, one in each state. Names will dribble out, and speculation will grow. The grand juries shouldn’t take all that long, these crimes were almost moronic in their simplicity. And then, God willing, the indictments.

Sweet Jesus, the DNC and Democratic aligned Super PAC ads literally write themselves. Start by showing Trump and his toadies screaming about Stop The Steal! and Massive Voter Fraud! And then scroll a list of GOP state lawmakers, with pictures, and the words Under indictment for federal voter fraud. Along with the voiceover, With all of their claims of massive voter fraud, the GOP can’t scroll 2 names of charged voter fraud from Democrats. But here’s the GOP list from your own state.

This is the break the Democrats have been waiting for. This isn’t going to take years to investigate, two months should be plenty. And then the legal drama plays out, in full media coverage. Accomplish what you can, highlight what you’ve already accomplished, and then let the media and the legal system hoist the GOP on their own petard. Payback is a bitch, and she’s in heat.
