Well, it happened and it is ug-leee. Rumors of the end of the Trump/Musk bromance bloomed for many weeks and were confirmed today. And now the gloves are off. Trump wants to deflower Musk of all of his government subsidies and Musk is talking about starting a new political party “which represents 80% of voters.” And that’s only part of it. This is going to be a duel to the death. Death of whom? What’s left of sanity and civil discourse in America, for one. Who knows what the political toll will be. We’re going to calculate that as we go.

If the above tweet is unclear, it’s an extrapolation of what will happen if Trump bumps all of Musk’s subsidies. Which Trump might. The man is an unstable lunatic and if he’s even talking this way, there are problems ahead for Musk. Now let us move on to Musk’s new political party.

Billionaire Elon Musk seemed to suggest support of a third political party as he escalated a growing fight with President Trump that boiled over Thursday.

“Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle,” Musk wrote in a post on social platform X to his more than 200 million followers on the site, which he owns.

Musk attached a survey to his post that allowed users to vote “yes” or “no” on the idea of a third political party.

The post came hours after Trump expressed “disappointment” with Musk over the billionaire’s criticism of the “big, beautiful bill” the president is trying to push through Congress.

Musk has argued the bill is too large and contains too much wasteful spending, what he called “pork” in an earlier post on X.

The salient question now, is can Musk create a viable third party? Or is it going to be like all the other third and splinter parties, and end up dragging away votes from the Democrats? 82% of Musk’s Twitter poll said “yes” a new party is needed. What’s needed in theory and what can be created in reality are two very different things. And this caveat I give thee: Musk has already shown that politics is not his metier. Maybe he should leave the big political machinations to the people who know what they’re doing. But with an ego like his, that isn’t likely.

The sparring continues. The beat down goes on. You’ve got the world’s most powerful man vs. the world’s richest man. Sounds like something that Linda McMahon should put wrestling costumes on and put in the ring, does it not? Oh and while you’re here, take a look at this.

That decline happened noon here in Pacific Time and that’s when this Trump/Musk feud news story broke. This is completely bat guano at this point. Nobody knows where this is going. The only question is, will there be enough popcorn?

  1. Musk thinks he’s going to start a third political party. Apparently he doesn’t realize the animosity he has earned himself with all the DOGE layoffs to the federal workforce. I don’t know if folks are equating him to the cuts in funding, but that could also figure into the equation.

    • I don’t think he has a chance in hell of creating a viable political party. What’s he going to call it, the Musky party? And he’ll finance the Musky candidates? What I foresee is that some political strategists could fleece the hell out of him, to the tune of many many billions of dollars. I’m sure every political strategist on both sides of the aisle is salivating at this new mark that Musk presents.

Musk made enemies when he cost people jobs and now he’s splitting MAGA in two — maybe. Musk rode on Trump’s coattails, not the other way around.

      • Well, Drumpf may have had the “coattails” that the Muskrat rode on but let’s not forget that the Muskrat basically loaned Drumpf the coat in the first place–in the form of that quarter-billion dollar “donation” and all the free publicity from “The Platform Formerly Known as Twitter.” (Remember that Drumpf didn’t have any of that in 2020 and he lost “bigly” to Biden. And I find it really hard to imagine the Dems shed that many voters “disappointed” in/with how Biden was replaced that they stayed home or voted third-party or that there were that many voters who’d completely forgotten the sh*tshow that Drumpf left this country in 2020 if it hadn’t been for the Muskrat.)

  2. This is going to be the weirdest combination of ugly, fascinating and yes sometimes humorous period in human history. I wrote elsewhere that Musk didn’t just burn the bridge but nuke it. If that seemed like hyperbole I’d ask the few who read it to think again because tossing Epstein and his association with Trump into this toxic sh!t stew is a point of no return. It is ON. It ends like the penultimate scene in the movie Excalibur, with Arthur and Mordred impaling each other in a literal death embrace. Battle lines are being drawn.

Here’s a wild-ass thought. Would Trump try to “Nationalize” Musk’s Space X? SCOTUS shot down Truman’s attempt to end a railroad strike by nationalizing that industry on national security grounds. However Space X has far more reach into our national security apparatus. Musk has proven why it was such a bad idea for conservatives to get their wish of “privatizing” space exploration. People don’t usually realize it but NASA was always a giant government contractor that didn’t actually build anything. However it wrote the rules and remained in control. Companies bid for contracts and NASA engineers and managers were in the loop as everything was being developed. Only now are folks waking up to the downside of turning so much of our national security to a private entity controlled by ONE person. Other countries, even Russia are realizing it too.

So there’s a legitimate national security case to be made. Whether SCOTUS would say Trump Nationalizing Musk’s space business passes Constitutional muster would be an epic case. And another strange one where SCOTUS, if the conservatives in particular want to rule for Trump have to use oral arguments to make Trumpty’s case for him. DOJ had lawyers, great ones that could have prior to recent months at least put up a fight. Not anymore!

Anyway Epstein has been a ticking time-bomb. I suspect there are several very, very high profile guys who wanted those files sealed. Hell, DESTROYED. Trump among them. The fuse is lit and the Epstein Bomb might finally go off. Yikes!

    • Maybe we need a new political party, but Musk is absolutely the worst person in the world to start it. He has the money but he won’t attract votes. Musk hasn’t got brain one about politics. Look at how he did in Wisconsin.

      • Well, I think his little attempted stunt that was little more than bribery was the bigger concern. And, maybe, to a lesser degree his failure to understand that the billionaire donors do better buying their candidates’ way into office by keeping their own (literal) contributions more in the dark.
But that stunt to pay voters? And its coming out within a week of the election? I think that was the bigger problem.
