We examine politics all day long here, it can even get unhealthy at times and a break is needed. So it was weird to look up the date of the election only to see that today – October 5th leaves a November 5th just a month away. We are 31 days away from perhaps the most crucial election date since 1860. Oh – and “perhaps” this time will usher in even more important dates afterward – court dates post-November 5th, and looking toward January 6th… again. With all that in mind, it is time to donate money – now, especially in light of Politico’s new reporting.

My circumstances are such that I cannot afford to even donate $20 – it would hurt my daughter and me. So I donated $3, and even that will be missed (Don’t even ask.) But I did donate and so should you. In fact, you should donate to the point that it hurts a tiny bit – not a lot, we all have responsibilities, but a bit. We have an obligation to this nation, too.

In that regard, Democrats have shown well of themselves. The treasure chests are near overflowing right now while the national Republican Senate and House election committees can literally not afford to support individual candidates. They must run a hybrid ad that conforms to PAC rules, meaning centered around a national issue, not as much on any one candidate.

Kamala Harris raised three times the amount that Trump raised this August and we’re awaiting September number – sure to also be big. Meanwhile, in the House and Senate the Democrats national committee had been just matching the Republicans until last month when the Democrats significantly raised more than Republicans which will now ripple forward in impact. From Politico:

Senate and House Republicans have openly sounded the alarm on their fundraising disparity. And the executive director of the NRSC warned that if they didn’t close the gap soon, the party would lose winnable Senate races.

That sounds juicy but it also sounds like a bit of a reach. It is hard to believe that television and social media ads have that much impact on independent voters. They likely only drive the base to show up – which is certainly important. But there is a big advantage that falls just a bit over the horizon. These Republicans like to scream “Rigged!” in every loss (See Kari Lake in Arizona) – in anticipation of such, it is necessary to have money in the bank to have attorneys ready at every level.

Kamala Harris has an extra hundred million over Trump, she has the same issue with money to use after the election and a lot of money is ready to use today. They can stalk incoming funds for critical use after the election because you know there is no way that Harris wins and Trump doesn’t claim that it was rigged. Legal fees, all over the place, will be needed – and she has it. An extra hundred million is super handy –

So, know that the election is only one month away and emotionally prepare for anything and everything. Additionally, any donation – make it hurt a tiny bit, can still be used either before or after the November 5th election. It is sad but in this era money is as necessary for after the election as much as just before.

It has been done before, it can be done again.

  1. Even if trump raises millions, and he is just not as many millions as V.P. Harris, he will not part with one penny of it for any down-ballot races. The committee that tone-deaf d.i.l. of his sits on is only going to throw any funds raised to her f.i.l. last I heard. The ‘pubes truly are in a very bad way financially. I hope this hurts badly as in they lose many races for both houses in congress. Of course I also hope von shitzi loses so badly he expires from the shame of it.

  2. Somebody’s got some money to spread around because in Oregon we are being flooded with offensive attack ads from repug Laurie Chavez DeRemer’s campaign against Janelle Bynum, who fortunately is able to meet the onslaught head on with plenty of her own ads (making nighttime TV the Laurie-Janelle show). The repugs want to hang onto District 5 at any cost, having flipped it when we tossed Kurt Schrader, a Dem in the vein of Manchin, Sinema. Bynum has some chops and can hopefully flip Dist. 5 back in the Blue column.
