Judge Arthur Engoron dismissed Donald Trump’s Motion For Mistrial on Friday, deeming it “utterly without merit.” The motion was brought so that down the road Trump could demand to appeal this case, which will unquestionably be decided in a manner that he will disagree with. Trump believes that he’s been unfairly persecuted here, and that any award of damages against him would be unfair. He’s obsessed with the notion that he’s done nothing wrong. Just this morning, once again, a screed appeared on Truth Social, where he goes to process his feelings via his thumbs and his telephone.
Yes, the gag order was temporarily lifted but the court meets on the 27th, so this reprieve may not be so sweet nor long lasting as Trump seems to think it will be. You notice how he immediately goes on a rant against the “politically biased and out of control Trump Hating Clerk.” This is precisely why the gag order was established in the first place, was to protect normal people doing their jobs.
In any event, we move right along to where all this is going. Yes, court on the 27th to decide the permanent fate of the gag order and what about Trump’s end game, which is the appeal? It looks like he’s blown that as well. Go to 4:15 to hear how Trump haranguing Engoron is not the great move that he thought it was.
Trump’s got slim chance of an appeal, but it’s carved in stone that his lawyers are going to try everything in the book to both placate their unstable client and to perhaps set the stage for a magical legal rabbit to be pulled out of a hat. I’m sure they’re not counting on it, but they’ll go through the motions. That much is certain.
What a life. Dates for motions, hearings, appeals, briefs, trials, are swarming around Trump’s head, like planes over La Guardia. And still he’s the presumptive candidate for the 2024 GOP ticket.
