On the topic of “Even more stuff coming out of the most insane five minutes in Oval Office history with near UFC-level fighting,” we have a really good reminder as to the stakes of the situation upon all parties leaving the Oval Office. No matter how much Trump wants to criticize Ukraine for being a “welfare nation” (As they have called Ukraine in the past), there is the reality that the man that he buried with criticism is leading his country in a war – getting shot at, literally, while Trump most certainly is not, despite the fact that we acknowledge that Trump has also been shot at. Over the weekend, however, as Zelensky prepared to return home, Trump got out of Washington for an end of February trip to Florida to catch up on some golf. Trump has spent one-third of his presidency on vacation.
And the juxtaposition as to the men’s futures after the meeting became the context for a vicious and viral tweet:

And that cannot be forgotten. Again, no matter how much Trump or any other American believes it is wrong to provide so much support for Ukraine, some respect has to flow out toward the one man in the room whose life and country are at risk in a battle to the death. It isn’t a situation where you want someone going off half-cocked, yelling at someone, pressuring the wrong guy into a settlement ending the war.
This is tough stuff and that meeting will go down as one of the biggest events in the Trump administration, likely signaling the end of American support and the beginning of European Primacy in the matter. How the players handled the immediate aftermath will matter greatly. Zelensky was received all over the world. Trump went golfing alone. Says a lot.

Perfect: Trumpler goes golfing, Vance goes skiing. Of course you need some time off after destroying America’s status in the world. President Zelensky went back to Europe to meet with other adult leaders who understand geopolitical affairs, who appreciate the threat posed by the tyrant Putin to the world order and who want to preserve the freedoms offered by democracy.
I mean make a tri photo of Vance going skiing after…..
While there are some uber rich assholes in the UK, some with ‘Peerage’ even who (quietly) support Trump he’s not at all popular in that realm. Especially in Scotland which he claims as part of his heritage. Scots hate him passionately. Fun fact for those who don’t know but Scotland happens to be the home of golf, where the game we know was invented. St. Andrews is the oldest course in fact. Anyone who golfs dreams of being able to play a round there!
Oh but it gets better. The Open Championship (we call it the British Open) is the oldest of the major championships. Over time well into the 20th century a custom of a certain group of special golf links (courses) was established as part of a “Rota” – courses considered to be the best, most challenging links on which to crown “The Champion Golfer of the Year.” Turnberry was once part of the Rota and hosted some memorable Opens including an epic duel between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. It fell off the Rota for reasons I won’t get into but the time came when Trump decided to acquire it. He pumped a lot of money into it and while there was some improvement not everything regarding the restoration was for the better. Nor, despite the upgrading of the clubhouse were the issues with infrastructure and housing for the number of spectators that attend the world’s biggest tournament brought up to where they need to be. Still, Trump’s goal in spending all that RUSSIAN money to buy and fix up what’s now called Trump Turnberry (he just HAD to slap HIS fucking name on it – and without realizing it harm his ultimate goal) to get Turnberry back into the Open Rota. He’s been rebuffed by the Royal and Ancient and it’s counterpart here, the USGA hasn’t applied any pressure on his behalf either.
IF any new course is admitted to the Open Rota (which means one would have to be dropped) it will be Muirfield which is considered the best and most fair challenge of all the courses that have held the Open. Why takes too long to explain, but next to St. Andrews it is the most desired place to play over there and home to the oldest formal golf club. They got dropped when a proposal to allow women to become members (barely) failed. Women could play there, just not be members and the vote narrowly failed. Some of the ‘old guard’ who were a bit too gleeful about having defeated the change took a lot of shit and it wasn’t long before a new vote was taken and the measure passed. Frankly the not so good ole boys didn’t think the R&A would DARE take the venerable Muirfield out of the Open Rota. They still probably voted No out of spite but most of those they’d convinced to join their sexist crusade got the message!
So, THAT will be a true insult to Trump yet to come assuming he doesn’t keel over dead walking from his golf cart to a green. Getting to host the Open is second only to his sick lust to fuck daughter Ivanka and if word leaks out the R&A is considering changes to the Rota he’ll be lobbying hard for his Turnberry Course. But while it has history, it’s far from that Muirfield has and the latter will get the nod. That just might be enough to have Trump stroke out!
