It is not like anyone has ever had to wonder where the MAGA community comes down on modern American culture, especially when it comes to men, and white men in particular. What they believe is unapologetic and correct alpha male reassertion of their inner-nature sounds to me like compensation for serious insecurities. I suppose it depends on one’s initial premise as to “manhood” but “man” do they ever complain a lot. Today VP JD Vance spoke at CPAC. I watch JD fairly closely, wondering if he has a future, because I think he’s too smart, a scary adversary, and might moderate in the future to become much more appealing to a broader audience. We will see, but today he was at his weakest, again. Whether he’s addressing single cat women or today’s males, he’s just terrible when talking about cultural phenomena, weird for a guy who wrote a pretty decent best seller on modern political movements. But again, he sure sounds insecure when calling out today’s males as androgynous idiots. As I see it, maybe today’s men don’t feel compelled to buy into aged stereotypes and are settling into a zone in which they’re more comfortable – that would seem to be a win. It may well be happening in women, too. Let me explain.

First, the quotes (Video Below):

“I think that our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge. You should you should try to cast aside your family. You should try to suppress what makes you a young man in the first place.

“And I think that my message to young men is don’t allow this broken culture to send you a message that you’re a bad person because you’re a man, because you like to tell a joke, because you like to have a beer with your friends or because you’re competitive.

Wow, this is particularly easy. I don’t hear a single message anywhere that encourages men to cast aside anything, least of all family. Indeed, I hear the opposite, dedicate yourself to family, raising children, be a partner, etc. That is what women are looking for – an equal partner. And that calls on someone to raise up what makes them a man in the first place, not suppress it. Perhaps I hear things a little differently than JD. Perhaps I don’t see a huge political win in playing victim.

No one is saying men are bad people for being men. We do have an issue with toxic testosterone, and everyone knows it when they see it. All that means is don’t be an aggressive asshole, not much more. Tell a joke – I sure do, and do it right here often enough, having a beer (Fine, you buy) and yes, I get competitive, just ask Urs when she is getting more readers than me, doesn’t happen often… I get competitive:

“The cultural message — and I think the president’s and mine is the exact opposite –but our cultural message is I think that it wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same and act the same.

I suspect that men are more open to hearing different views, I suppose that makes some think we all act the same. Again, I don’t hear anyone saying I need to be more feminine, nor that women need to be more masculine. I actually believe that the genders coming closer together is nothing more than a product of believing that neither has to play into stereotypes and thus allowing more of their gifts to come out, whether it is a male who doesn’t feel the need to be so aggressive, or a woman who feels freed to be more aggressive. I suspect that the rejection of being pigeonholed is the root cause and not in any way inherently bad.

“We actually think God made male and female for a purpose. And we want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women. And we’re going to help with our public policy to make it possible to do that.”

Well, if there are two and only two genders per God’s plan please explain how it is that trans gendered Americans came about, never mind LGBTQ family that can fall somewhere on a spectrum. Just because the idea seems foreign to some doesn’t make it dangerous. Indeed, it’s one of those things that if you don’t hide, if you don’t reject it all before you even know, the more you learn, the more you simply accept that some people are different, it certainly doesn’t hurt you, and the best policy is to accept their assertions and the science behind it – not going to hurt you. And it means everything to some others.

I just don’t see it but then again, I’m not going to politically benefit either way. I know I feel plenty masculine and most women I’ve been with comment on loving how sensitive I am. Fine, but I’m still going to have a beer, play sports, almost get in fights, and that’s that. What I won’t do is act out in accord with a more traditional stereotype because some expect it, some find it politically advantageous, etc. etc. To the extent that makes me androgynous, so be it. It certainly doesn’t make me an idiot. I feel plenty male, thanks. Occasionally I even feel smart. Weird.

Friends, donations have dried up this week and we haven’t gotten any new subscribers. If you’ve already helped, thank you so very much. If you can help a bit, it would be appreciated. We are in a slough of despair with the generalized Democratic depression on top of Q1 revenue rates being the lowest of all year. Thank you. Ursula

  1. It would really be a lot easier to take Vance’s comments regarding “masculinity” and “androgyny” a bit more seriously if it didn’t look like he’d been standing in front of a mirror every morning, applying a nice coating of eyeliner to help his eyes “pop” for the cameras.

I mean, look at the Muskrat (not for long, mind you, for your own sanity) but he doesn’t look like he’s spending much time at all indulging in any kind of “beauty regimen” and the only reason Drumpf’s eyes “pop” is because he avoids putting all that “bronzer” anywhere around the eyes (I guess he just thought “reverse raccoon” was a good look). But Vance? Maybe he’s got his routine so down pat (much like a pro drag queen) that he can get that eyeliner applied lickety-split.

  2. When he speaks about young men and young women, he means straight white Christian young men and women. He also ignores the reality of intersexed individuals.
