No matter how much we detest JD Vance, Usha Vance has been showing us what she’s made of. She’s not nearly as dumb as he is, and personally, there’s a firm belief that she’s pretty damn smart. The Second Lady has quite a head on her shoulders and enjoys showing us she does in subtle ways. This one is just marvelous! With gratitude for Raw Story:
Second Lady Usha Vance asked President Donald Trump a simple question about his reading habits on her children’s literacy podcast, and the internet surmised she knew exactly what she was doing. In the episode of “Storytime with the Second Lady,” posted Friday, Vance asked Trump whether he has any time to read for fun these days. “I end up reading mostly newspapers. I usually read stories about myself,” the president replied. The clip rocketed across social media, where Trump critics treated the answer as an accidental self-own served up by a deceptively gentle question.
Ha. He lies. They can barely get him to read a one-page summary of the news. Trump doesn’t read. That’s been reported on multiple times. The Second Lady got him but *good*. And we can bet he didn’t even notice! The extent of his reading is that one page and whatever posts he reads on his phone, so he has something to rage about. A lot of people actually *like*, if not love, to read. It’s much more interesting than anything from Trump. You should see the “library” for our house.
“Usha Vance just exposed Trump,” posted commentator Keith Edwards. He added: “Lol Usha knew exactly what she was doing.” PatriotTakes summed it up in two words: “Usha trolling Trump.” The Tennessee Holler ran the exchange and added, “aaaand scene.” Others read strategy into it. “Usha is no lib but she is smart,” wrote Steve Morris, who covers Democratic governance. “And any smart person who would ask Donald Trump on camera what he reads is a person who does not like Donald Trump.”
Yes, indeed, gee, WE THINK!! It does not make me want to go find this episode, but she absolutely nailed him to the WALL. Sure, she’s conservative, but there have been a couple of times when she has done something so well that we can forgive that. Usha Vance is a much better person, but she’s been so quiet in general that she’s been overlooked. We can be perfectly happy when she pulls off something, although it’s still surprising she didn’t smack JD across the face for that knee pat. Talk about patronizing. That took some self-control.
There is no evidence Vance intended anything beyond a standard question, and the interview was friendly, pre-taped in the Oval Office in mid-June. Trump used the rest of it to read the picture book “Presidents Play!” and riff on his predecessors, joking he had to mind his weight so as not to top William Howard Taft as the heaviest president, and doubting whether Barack Obama, a favorite target, is any good at basketball.
Hmmm. I went looking for a new Trump pic for something recently. He has gained weight since the beginning of his second term, so there’s not a damn thing he’s doing about it. He walks to the chopper or “walks” to the golf course, then plants himself on a cart if he’s not standing. He’s not concerned about his weight. Yawn on the Obama crack. He needs a new schtick.
The Second Lady came out on top again. Trump missed it. Fortunately, she has to be around him a whole lot less than her husband does. It should be fun to see what she does next. It’s still possible to detest JD and admire Usha Vance every now and then. More power to her!
