Now wouldn’t *that* be entertaining? All the “work” Trump did to get the Olympics here, and he might not be able to go watch? Or J(usta) D(umbass) either? That would be gorgeous! I’m already giggling, and if it happens, I’ll seriously be ROTFLOL-ing. It would serve them right. Sure, I’d love to go, but the co$$$$$$$t means nope. But I am just a civilian, so that means I *could*. With appreciation to the Associated Press and Raw Story:

The World Anti-Doping Agency is considering a rule change that could attempt to bar President Donald Trump and other top U.S. officials from attending the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics over a long-running dispute involving unpaid American dues. The Associated Press reported Friday that the proposal is on the agenda for next week’s executive committee meeting and stems from years of tension after the U.S. government withheld funding in protest of the agency’s handling of a string of high-profile doping cases, including one involving Chinese swimmers.

And Trump bitches about countries not putting money into NATO and such. Hypocrisy, anyone? The US is behind on the money it owes to more than one thing (thanks to a reader who told me the US owes money to NATO). That’s just embarrassing. On the other hand, it’s nothing new for Trump. He blurts out things, and his staff has to deal with them later.

“The Associated Press learned of the agenda item through correspondence it obtained between WADA and European officials involved in the agency’s decision-making,” according to the news agency’s report. “Two others with knowledge of the agenda confirmed the existence of the rules proposal to AP; they were not authorized to speak publicly about the agenda, which has not been released publicly.” But WADA spokesperson James Fitzgerald said “there is nothing new here,” noting similar discussions about governments withholding funding have been underway since 2020, AP said.

Well, nuts. I had been hoping it was just the US, because it would frustrate and anger Trump and his officials, but apparently not. That burst my bubble of joy. Well, it’s still an entertaining thought. People seem to forget that things cost money, not just time. How are they going to get the medals for the athletes, after all? Or paying the judges? If you’re just watching the Olympics, there’s no reason to think about everything that goes on in the background. I remember concerts where I worked in setup and teardown. There’s a *lot* that goes on. That’s just for one evening!

If adopted, the rule could also have implications for other international events hosted by the U.S., such as this summer’s World Cup. A draft proposal would apply restrictions to officials from governments that fail to pay dues by a set deadline. “The rule, if passed, would figure to be mostly symbolic, given the limits an international sports federation could have on the president of a country attending an event inside his own borders,” according to AP. Sarah Carter, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, said the MAGA administration will continue “to stand firm in our demand for accountability and transparency from WADA to ensure fair competition in sport.”

Nevertheless, “you aren’t welcome here” is still a nice, nasty, little mean thought. I wonder if he thinks it will be “too far” to travel, just like it was for the Super Bowl. There’s a more than good chance he’d get booed there, too. He’s going to want to crow about it and look how the US is handling the Olympics, blah, blah, blah. I’m glad we got them, but it would have been nice if it had NOT been because of Trump. Ah, well, a couple of years and we’ll be able to watch. Just keep US government officials away.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. From the block quote: “The rule, if passed, would figure to be mostly symbolic, given the limits an international sports federation could have on the president of a country attending an event inside his own borders,” according to AP.

Well, a state governor who stands fervently opposed to Drumpf might be more able to stop a “president of a country attending an event inside his own borders.” Unfortunately Newsom won’t be there (since he’s term-limited) and the current pack seems to keep switching leads every day or so.
