This is how it’s going to be for a while but hopefully not as long as the likes of Stephen Miller and ICE think. Forget about cracks, giant fissures are starting to show up in the foundation of their crooked operation. What you’re about to see is another clip of an hysterical American. I can’t blame the woman in question for being hysterical. She’s sitting there as bullets are fired and she’s got kids with her, so that escalates the level of conflict and panic. Worrying about getting shot is one thing, worried about your kid getting shot is something else.

What drives me bonkers is the non responsiveness of ICE. But that should not surprise me. I was in a situation once where the road to the triplex I lived in had been blocked off and I was trying to figure out how to get home when the cops stopped me. I guess that I had driven onto a “crime scene” and I put that in quotes because there was nothing physical to indicate anything like that. But certainly I’m stopped and I’m maybe not a person of interest but I definitely wasn’t told I was free to go.
The cops were acting especially weird that night. I never found out what happened but rumor had it that it was a drug bust and a cop got shot. All I knew was that three of them were at my car and I was a 50-something white woman in an old Volkswagan station wagon, hardly the picture of a terrorist or a gang banger, right? And for that I was grateful. That was not a night to be out on the road if you wore a hajib or looked Hispanic or non white, non old and harmless in all ways.
One of the cops was shining a light into all corners of my car. I had the presence of mind to keep my hands on the wheel because this was all going south very quickly. Then the second guy began to defend his right to detain me. I never questioned his right to pull me over, I questioned how *@$#& long it would be before I be allowed to drive two and a half blocks and go home.
Another ten minutes goes by and I’m ready to start hysterically screaming, but I managed to politely squeak out, “Sir, I just want to go home. Are you telling me I cannot drive up my street and I cannot go home tonight or what are you telling me?”
So the third guy heard this and got on a walkie talkie and he actually got something handled. I was told to take such and such route and that route only and I did. The reason I share this with you is because normal police in a *situation* really don’t care about you if you happen to be in the way. And you can be in the way for the most lawful reason imaginable, like driving to where you live, the address on your driver’s license, but you’re still just an obstacle to them.
Compound this with the political theatrics of ICE and whatever quirky quota system they’re working with and you can see where things can get out of control quickly.
I am amazed that any Hispanic can vote Republican after this. But maybe it is as simple as the Leopard’s Eating Peoples’ Faces party. You join that party because you believe, nay you depend on, the fact that the leopards are never going to eat your face, only The Other’s faces. Then you find out too late when the leopards finally get around to you and it’s crunch crunch.

IANAL, but this screams lawsuit to me. She’s a citizen and they are shooting at a car with children. I didn’t see a weapon in her hands, I didn’t see the vehicle moving. I don’t see a threat to LE at all.
I keep asking how many of us will he kill this time? It was nearly a million Americans who died on his watch last time due to his criminal indifference and not so benign neglect, with the help of Covid. This time it’s going to require guns, loss of medical/insurance coverage, unleashing the right-wing terrorists in this country, sabotaging the governmental departments that work to keep us safe/healthy/free/informed, and destroying all the positive things this country has represented and provided. Rump is nucking futs and he’s going to take us all down with him. The other piece of all this is what Rump is doing to American’s relationship with, as well as trust and respect for law enforcement. He’s instilling fear and loathing for law enforcement. The disgusting actions of ICE/Border Patrol are affecting how we see our local police. I have to remind myself that our locals are prohibited from helping ICE, that they are not responsible, but it still has an impact, and not a good one.
