Well, as expected the Senate GOP killed a bill that contained the very things they’d demanded for months. While McConnell sent a few of his people, most notably James Lankford of Oklahoma to negotiate in good faith it turns out there was never enough of that in the larger caucus. Too many made noise about only accepting a deal if certain conditions were met and when Lankford got them into the proposed legislation they balked. They were lying all along. Some others were afraid of Trump. (“Please don’t tweet mean things about me sir!”) And some, I think would have even if Trump hadn’t issued “kill it” orders have voted no because like Trump they wanted the “border crisis” as a campaign issue.

As the AP reports, there were various reasons given (including noting some Democrats voted no because they thought the bill was too restrictive) but the bottom line is that the Senate didn’t come close to getting the 60 votes needed for cloture. Having a majority doesn’t do much good in the Senate if it takes 60 votes in that procedural step to get an actual vote on a piece of legislation. (One more reason to get rid of the filibuster, or at least restore the conditions to what they were until fifty years ago) But I’m angry. Livid in fact.

As you might have guess from the title and the title pic I know goddam well that there ARE  Republicans who would claim nothing less than what our soldiers faced on D-Day. And as bad as things were on Omaha Beach (shown above from the German’s view of the scene) and Utah too the really bad news is that while Rommel had prepped much of the coast the best defenses were up at Calais where the invasion had been expected. Still, our troops faced a slaughterhouse. German guns back from the beach had long been sited in. So had mortars. Then there were the pillboxes with murderous machine gun fire and other machine gun nests and of course individual Germans with rifles in prepared positions firing down on troops crossing beaches with no cover.

I swear THAT is what some conservatives want at our southern border. The entire thing militarized like the “Western Wall” and a greenlight to open fire on anyone even approaching our southern border. Just kill them. And kill anyone who tries to collect the bodies! That’s how vile, how despicable, how CRUEL the GOP has become. I say the GOP because some might indeed believe all that’s over the top but they aren’t about to slap down the cruelest, the most hateful among them. Especially not with Racist-In-Chief Trump egging them on.

What really galls me is if Democrats were to say tomorrow “Ok guys. You win. Well deploy a million or more troops to the border and arm them to the teeth with standing orders to kill anything that moves” it STILL wouldn’t be enough. THEN these asshole would say “What? No land mines like the DMZ in Korea?” And if Democrats said “Fine, land mines it is, and before you ask drones too. Oh, and if you feel the need to get your rocks off now and then you even get to sit with the operator and press the button that sends the missile down to kill people!” They’d STILL say no. “What, no boiling oil to pour down on them?” Trust me, they’d keep coming up with ever more extreme, cruel things.

These are sick, sick f**ks. And again, so are their colleagues who aren’t THAT extreme but won’t slap these assholes down. Just like they won’t toss Trump over the side of the GOP boat. I am filled with a new level of hatred of Republicans tonight. I didn’t like some of the provisions in that border bill as I too believed it’s too harsh. But it had much that’s needed  and we gave up what we gave up to gain support for badly needed aid for allies – in Europe, the middle East and too often forgotten Asia where China is lurking. It was I felt a “take our medicine” type of thing. A pill with a bad taste. The GOP got a f**king gummy bear!

So think what you will but I believe my level of outrage and the accompanying hatred is well justified.  Trust me when I say I’ve held back with this. That I’m not saying what I truly feel inside. If I did Ursula would have to ban me from the site. Let’s just say I wouldn’t mind if GOPers managed to create the hell on earth they dream of at the southern border, and somehow found themselves stranded on the wrong side and had to make their way across on foot. I wouldn’t mind one bit to see them caught up in the very deadly scene they wish on others.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. They keep saying the cruelty is the point with these idiots.

I don’t know if it is JUST that.

What happened in their childhoods that made them like this?

And how can we stop it happening to other children?

  2. Denis I’m with you 150%. When Patton liberated the death factories…he had his troops round up every German citizen they could find and MADE THEM TOUR THE DEATH CAMPS TO SEE WHAT THEY SUPPORTED AND PRETENDED TO NOT NOTICE!!!!
I know there are those who believe we can play nice and listen reasonably with these nazi child killers. They talk from comfort bought by the tens of thousands of BOYS who died to fight and stop fascism. They disgust me with their denial of history and their refusal to look this evil squarely in the face. This is a goddamn war that continues until fascism is dead. Fact. Maybe we will beat it back with the vote. Maybe. If not then we need to prepare for hell. The fact that this fascist lying child murdering pig committed his crimes in public and then GOT MORE VOTES doesn’t give me comfort…it causes me to burn with rage and a greater resolve to fight. Those boys who faced machine gun fire didn’t choose to die. They did…by the thousands. I won’t live under fascism and people can take that any way they want. I will honor the oath I took when I joined the military to defend the constitution from ALL enemies foreign and DOMESTIC! Seems like more citizens need to take the same oath.

  3. I sort of get the feeling that the RWNJs would love to shift the border down to Panama – after all the areas that they are complaining about were seized from Mexico to begin with, so why not keep on moving the border?

Besides which, a border at Panama would be a LOT shorter and easier to ‘defend’ (just park a few mothballed battleships in the canal)

    • I would gree with you but for the fact that even if this happened, the rethugs would definitely deny the vote to the “new citizens.” That’s what happened when New Mexico became a state in 1910. The former Mexican residents were not granted US citizenship until 1924, and the native Americans could not vote until 1048. Much of that time leading up to statehood and after statehood and final granting of citizenship, but for the Depression, there were mostly republican presidents in charge. And so we can see that nothing has changed in a century.

  4. The cruelty is the point.
Abbott won’t be happy unless There are rows of men with machine guns ten deep covering every foot of that river. Oh, and drones and dogs and pepper spray and grenades.
    That tree had one job…
